JAMMU, Feb 17: Condemning the Government action of not allowing the party's February 19"Duggar Chetna Rally" on the occasion of "Duggar Shaurya Diwas", the Jammu Kashmir Democratic Front has termed the action as deliberate and move to suppress the freedom of expression and denial of political space to other groups by the ruling NC-Congress Coalition Government. Expressing anguish and concern over the curbing of democratic right to hold a political rally, the JKDF president Anil Gupta said that the party has applied for permission to hold the Motor Cycle/Car Rally named as "Duggar Chetna Rally" on the occasion of JKDF's foundation day from Deputy Commissioner Jammu on December 17 last but it was delayed deliberately and denied at the eleventh hour when all preparation for the rally was completed. Police and Traffic departments have already granted the permission for holding of rally on February 19 but Deputy Commissioner Jammu refused to allow the same on the reasons best known to him, Gupta added. Gupta said, "We strongly condemn the Government action of not allowing us to remember our great heroes and to salute their sacrifices, besides denying us an opportunity to mark our Foundation Day as Duggar Shaurya Diwas." JKDF leader appealed to all trade organizations, Bar Association of Jammu, Transporters and political groups irrespective of ideology to observe complete bandh on February 19 as a protest against the curbing of democratic rights and suppressing the voice of Jammu, besides disrespect to great heroes and sons of soil. |
