JAMMU, Feb 17: Kamal Singh and Mandeep Kour won the 4th edition of the Jammu Marathon in male and female categories respectively to fetch first prize worth Rs 21,000 each. Prizes were given away by the Minister for Sports, Taj Mohi-ud-Din at MA Stadium, here today. It took Kamal 26.17 minutes to complete the 8.5 kilometers distance. Winner in female category, Mandeep covered the distance in 35.16 minutes. The second place in men's category went to an SPO with J&K Police, Ram while third place went to Riaz Ahmad. Both these position holders also got a prize money of Rs 11,000 and Rs 5,100 respectively. Similarly, in female category, second place was bagged by Jaspreet Kour while Nazish Fatima finished third. The Marathon, organised by Board for Development of Sports in India and dedicated to the dignity and pride of Indian women, passed through BC Road, Amphalla, CPO Chowk, Kachi Chawni, Parade, Shalamar, Gummat, Vivekanand Chowk and Dogra Chowk to finish at MA Stadium. Earlier, the Marathon with the theme of `Run for Jammu, Run for Pride'flagged off jointly by the Minister for Sports and Minister for Housing, Raman Bhalla from MA Stadium. Speaking to the gathering at the culminating point of MA Stadium, here, Minister for Sports, said that the event was organised with an aim to promote sports activities among youth. He appreciated the initiative taken by the organizers. Earlier, in his address, Minister for Housing, Raman Bhalla urged the young generation to participate in co-curricular activities besides their academic pursuits. Prominent among others present were Director Youth Services and Sports, Jaipal Singh, Deputy Inspector General of Police, J P Singh, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Traffic, Shakeel A Baig, Secretary Sports Council, Dalip Thusoo, Director, Board of Development for Sports in India, Amit Sethi. |
