J&K Bank felicitates Srinagar Marathon winners, veteran sportsman

Srinagar, Feb 23: Keeping its promise J&K Bank today felicitated the first three position holders of the 42-km Srinagar Marathon and the veteran athlete of the state Reyaz Ahmad Wani who announced his retirement after participating in the run. The marathon held few months ago was organised by Jammu and Kashmir Sports Development Association (JKSDA).
Chairman J&K Bank Sports Board Tafazal Hussain, who is also Bank's Executive President gave cash-prizes of Rupees seven thousand each along with Certificates of Appreciation to the first three position holders here in presence of Secretary Board Showkat Ahmad Khanyari.
Notably, Reyaz Ahmad of J&K Police, Muzaffer Ahmad of SAM Degree College Budgam and Tanveer Hussain of J&K Bank had won the first three positions in the marathon. He also presented a 'Life-time Achievement Certificate' and cheque of Rupees fifteen thousand to the accomplished athlete of state Reyaz Ahmad Wani as a souvenir for his remarkable sporting career.
Speaking on the occasion, Tafazal Hussain said, "Through-out its illustrious journey J&K Bank has been the leading institution in grooming the sporting talent across the state. We have helped the talented sports persons to hone their skills and facilitated their performance at national and international levels."
Fulfilling my promise made at the Srinagar Marathon few months ago, I am very happy to confer these souvenirs of appreciation to one of the remarkable athletes of our state Reyaz Ahmad Wani besides other young and talented sportsmen, he added.
He thanked JKSDA for their contribution and cooperation.
Pertinently, Reyaz Ahmad Wani has represented the state in two international championships and more than 30 national championships in six different sporting disciplines throughout his athletic career.
He is the general secretary of J&K Cycling Association and in last three years has made cycling one of the popular sports in Kashmir.
Tanveer Hussain, is the winner of last Jammu Marathon as well. He is also the first long distance runner of state who completed 100-kilometer run non-stop from Srinagar to Pahalgam.
The meeting ended with a vote-of-thanks from the secretary sports board.
