Jammu, Feb 23: A State having 7.36 lakh families living below poverty line (BPL) and facing hard time to meet both ends but amazingly the contestants, who have filed nominations for MLC polls, and are likely to represent the hapless public, have great difference viz-a-viz their economic status. Except two candidates out of 10, eight are Crorepatis irrespective of the parties, with which they belong.
According to affidavits submitted by all the contestants for seven seats of MLC polls, which are in possession of Early Times, Abdul Majid of National Conference topped the list with moveable and immovable property of approximately Rs 16 Crores on the name of him and his family. "He has moveable assets of around Rs 70 lakhs on his name while his spouse has Rs. 7 lakh assets, besides the immovable property of around Rs 15 Crores," the affidavit disclosed.
Devinder Rana of NC, who is elected for second term, followed the list with moveable and immovable assets of around Rs. 14 Crores. "The moveable assets of Rana have total value of Rs. 2.64 Crores while his wife has Rs. 3.11 Crores worth moveable property. Immoveable property on the name of Rana is Rs. 6.90 Crores while his wife has Rs 1.50 Crores immoveable assets," the document maintained.
Independent candidate, Shiban Krishen Dudha has moveable assets of around Rs. 67 Lakhs while immovable plus moveable assets have market value of around Rs 8.10 Crores.
Another NC candidate Showkat Ganai has moveable and immovable property of Rs. 6 Crores approximately. "He has moveable assets of Rs. 14 Lakh while his spouse has assets worth Rs. 5.70 Lakh while as the immovable property of Rs. 6 Crores on his name and Rs. 20 lakh on his wife's name," the affidavits disclosed.
Indian National Congress candidate, Mohammad Muzaffar Paray has movable and immoveable property worth Rs. 3.81 Crores, while Gargi Billoria who is also from Congress party, has moveable and immovable assets of approximately Rs. 3 Crores.
"The moveable property on Gargi Billoria's name is around 29 Lakhs while Rs. 20 Lakh on the name of his husband, besides she owns the immoveable property of Rs. 8.80 Lakh while his husband owns the assets worth Rs. 2.37 Crores," it disclosed.
Naresh Gupta of Congress party, who is also proposed for the second term, has movable and immovable assets worth Rs. 2.60 Crores approximately. "Market value of immoveable property owned by Gupta is Rs. 2 Crores while moveable property of Rs. 60 Lakh," the affidavits disclosed.
Syed Naem Akhtar Andrabi of People’s Democratic Party has moveable and immovable property of around Rs. 2 Crores. "Naem has moveable property of around Rs. 14 Lakhs on his name while Rs. 5.70 Lakh on his wife's name besides immovable property on his name was Rs. 90 Lakh while on his wife's name is 1.30 Crores," it disclosed.
Yashpal Sharma has moveable and immovable property of only 56 Lakhs while Mohammad Iqbal is below of all candidates with only assets of Rs. 5 Lakhs.
