[email protected] Srinagar, Mar 4 : Majlis-e-Mashawaraat sponsored strike affected normal life across the Valley. The strike call had been given to protest death of a Kashmiri student in a Hyderabad university. Barring few incidents of violence, the strike was by and large peaceful. All shops, commercial establishments and government offices remained closed in the summer capital. Traffic was off the roads. However, a few private vehicles were seen plying in the civil lines area. The strike was near total in the old town. Reports of total shut down have been received from all district headquarters and major towns in the Valley. Protests erupted in this north Kashmir town after soldiers beat up some pedestrians. Window panes of houses and private vehicles were also broken, reports said. Later the youth engaged the soldiers for quite some time. Soon after, the authorities imposed restrictions in the town. Meanwhile, Jamiat Ahlihadees (JAH) President Ghulam Rasool Malik, led the funeral prayers of Muddasir Kamran at Parigam Pul-wama Monday after his body arrived from Hydera-bad. According to relatives, there were visible marks of torture on the body. Addressing mourners Malik said: "If Muddasir was not murdered, how come his body bore torture marks? From where did these marks come from? Couldn't the doctors who examined his body in Hyderabad see these visible marks? These torture marks clearly indicate that this poor Kashmiri Muslim was subjected to torture before being killed and only an impartial probe can bring out the truth in this regard."
