| "Nodal officers reduced to Class IV employees' | | vAyush Units lack staff, medicines | | ET Plus Report srinagar, Mar 4: At a time when a vast majority of people prefer Aurvedic medicines over the allopathic drugs, the Ayush units have failed them for want of basic infrastructure. According to reports, the units lack proper staff and adequate supply of medicines further hampers their functioning in north and south Kashmir. The unit at Bandipora which is currently functioning in a Public Health Centre is craving for proper supply of medicines. Sharing details, nodal officer attached in the unit, Dr Rukhsana said that the proposal of medicines required for daily requirements has been sent to the concerned last year but nothing has come to the unit till date. The unit is being run by staff attached from different block centers of the district. Likewise the posts of pharmacists, medical officers, B- grade specialists and lab technicians are vacant in district Baramulla. The concerned additional medical officer (ADMO) finds it difficult to tackle the increasing number of people visiting the unit. The condition of Ayush units functional in South Kashmir is no different. The details mentioned in a letter no ADMO/ISM/PUL-SPN/489-98, dated 14-06-2012 sent to District Development Commissioner Shopian to raise the issue of staff shortage for units in south Kashmir's district Shopian and Pulwama districts reads that the units need one medical officer, 3 B -Grade specialists, 4 medical officers, 4 pharmacists, 6ANM's and 12 other posts of lab and x-ray technicians and other IV Class employees. The unit is also run by staff attached from various Health Centres and needs proper supply of medicines. The nodal officer have been reduced to the level of a IV Class employees. Whereas Chief Mmedical Officers of general line medicine system enjoy Government vehicle, accommodation and other allowances. As per the health system norms they are not given 25 % of money as non practice allowances as well. |
