| `Politics makes strange bed fellows' | | Cool it, Rana | | ET Plus Report JAMMU, Mar 4: Shocked by BJP's support to Shiban Krishan Duda in the Legislative Council Election, National Conference (NC) provincial President, Devender Singh Rana said the development had vindicated NC stand that an `unholy' alliance exists between PDP and the BJP. Rana's statement reflected his state of mind. He seemed shocked rather shaken by the development. He went on to say PDP was a creation of BJP. "The PDP had been created and funded by the BJP to weaken NC", he said. He also made a mention of BJP statement stating that it (BJP) will not support Duda. Rana needs to learn the basic lessons of politics. There are no permanent friends and foes in politics and this has been time and again proved by his own party. NC is faithful to the party that forms the government at New Delhi. In 2014 elections if NDA emerges victorious, NC may be part of the `unholy' alliance. Rana was happy with BJP when its seven members resorted to cross voting in 2011 Legislative Council elections. Rana had no problems with the BJP till yesterday because he believed the party would not participate in elections to pave way for coalition candidates. But when BJP took the decision of supporting Duda yesterday, it suddenly became `unholy' for him and the NC.Moreover, is this most powerful man oblivious of the fact that it was NC first to extend a hand of friendship and alliance with the NDA government at Centre in 2002 when AB Vajpayee was the Prime Minister and Omar Abdullah was one of the ministers in his Council. Rana also tends to forget the fact that the local level NC enjoyed a bonhomie with BJP in the Jammu Municipal Corporation and even engaged itself in a strategy with the party leadership to grab the post of Deputy Mayor . This bonhomie continued for several years and for obvious inclination of few NC leaders towards few BJP leaders and vice versa , the BJP is often referred to as B team of NC only. Therefore , he should have given a thought before using the expressions like unholy alliance of BJP with PDP. The very fact that Rana responded harshly to the BJP decision conveys that he had expectations with the party. BJP or for that matter PDP are at liberty to take decisions for their own benefit. Normally, Rana should not have reacted to the development. After all it is the internal affair of a political party. But he was pained by the decision. No problem, Mr Rana. Cool it. Politics makes strange bed fellows! |
