Bashir Assad Jammu, Mar 12: Alleging that ruling National Conference was part of the decision not to hand over the mortal remains of Parliament attack convict, Afzal Guru to his family, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti today termed the statement of Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde as unfortunate and an insult to the Indian Parliament and State Assembly. Talking to media persons in the central hall of the J&K Legislature after the House was adjourned today, Mehbooba said the statement was shocking because according to her, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh had hinted that the issue can be discussed in the Parliament. "It is unfortunate for a democracy like ours that Home Minister shows no respect to the sentiments of Kashmiri people who have been pushed to the wall and it was ridiculous more so because the Parliament was in session and the Prime Minister had said that the issue can be discussed in the Parliament," said Mehbooba adding that the State Government headed by Omar Abdullah cannot escape the responsibility of being part of the decision. She said that the decision not to return the body of Guru have been taken in connivance with the State Government. "They are sharing power with UPA at Centre and here they are in coalition with Congress, how can they deny for being part of the decision," said PDP leader. "People in Kashmir are subjected to brutalities, pellet and Pepper gas are being showered on them and it was not expected that the Central Government will close the doors for any move aimed at bringing situation back to normal," alleged Mehbooba. "We want that a resolution should be passed in the House to press for the return of mortal remains of Guru," said the PDP president. |
