JAMMU, Mar 12: Even as People’s Democratic Party (PDP) MLAs and some Independent legislators were raising pitch in the State Legislative Assembly today over Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde's statement that the body of Afzal Guru will not be returned to his family, the Jammu based MLAs besides one Congress Minister in the coalition Government were no less vocal as they opposed the uproar created by Kashmir based opposition legislators with equal thrust.
Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Sharma once again exhibited that he will not be a mute spectator to whatever is going on in the House over Afzal Guru issue.
As the House again plunged into pandemonium over bringing a resolution on retrieving Afzal Guru's body soon after the day's proceedings for the second sitting began, the PHE Minister Sham Lal Sharma appealed the Speaker Mubarak Gul to restore order in the House and run the business as per the set procedures.
"Some of the opposition members are using unparliamentarily language which is not good for the sanctity of the House," Sham Lal Sharma said.
In an obvious reference to Er Rashid's behaviour in the House, PHE Minister retorted, "He is a nuisance for the House… He has developed a habit of trooping into the Well of the House almost on every issue…. Please suspend him."
Asserting that order must be restored in the House, Sham Lal said, "The opposition is not letting the House to take up Question Hour …. Speaker Saheb can't you suspend those who are behind frequent disruptions and ruckus in the House… They are playing with the sentiments of Jammu people… Please put an end to this and let the issues of common man be heard and raised."
Later while talking to reporters outside the Assembly, Sham Lal Sharma said that the PDP and some independent members are playing politics over Afzal issue with the result proceedings of the House is getting disturbed over and over again.
"Afzal Guru was executed as per the law of land and he is in no way a martyr…. I fail to understand why people are doing politics over his execution. Some are terming him as 'Saheb' while others martyr on the Floor of the House…. I requested the Speaker to expunge entire proceeding as using such language is against the Constitution," Sharma said.
"Afzal was a convict who dared to attack Indian Parliament- the highest seat of our Democracy…. He was hanged after a judgement was passed by the Supreme Court of India and was given every opportunity to defend himself," He added.
While referring to PDP's demand for bringing a Resolution over Afzal Guru issue, Minister Sham Lal said that it cannot be brought as per the norms.
"The Rule Book of the Assembly clearly mentions that if an issue is once discussed in the House it can' be brought again as a Resolution," the Minister said.
If Sham was loud and clear over Afzal Guru issue, the BJP MLA Jugal Kishore was no less vociferous in opposing the PDP's antics.
While speaking to media persons after the House was adjourned for the third time, the BJP member said that the ruckus inside the House is a part of conspiracy.
"The continuous uproar has lowered the sanctity of the House… Assembly has lost its sheen under prevailing scenario…. It has been turned into a Wrestling ring just to settle political scores…. The common man's issues are getting ignored due to the disturbances inside the House," the BJP MLA said.
The Jammu State Morcha member Ashwani Sharma too objected to the uproar in the House over Afzal issue and termed the PDP protests as mere 'drama' adding that some members of the House are wasting the Assembly's time and raising "anti-national slogans and demands".
"The House is being used to raise anti-national issues instead of taking up people's problems… It is being done deliberately to suppress the issues of Jammu people," Ashwani said.
