Jammu, Mar 12: Plagued by acute power crisis industrialists and common consumers in Jammu and Kashmir have urged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to plead with Union leadership for getting some share of electricity from the just commissioned first 660 MW unit of the Sasan power project in Madhya Pradesh. Social activists, political leaders including working chairman Panthers Party Harsh Dev Singh, and leaders of trade and commerce in Jammu have said that Omar Abdullah needs to take up the issue of electricity starved Jammu and Kashmir with Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh so that the state could receive additional power from the Sasan project. They reminded the Chief Minister that already the National Power Grid has decided to help northern states that are reeling under power crisis, by making available electricity from the 660 MW Sasan project. They said that compared to Delhi,Har yana,UP,Punjab,Himachal Jammu and Kashmir suffered sever e power shortage and hence the border state deserved bigger share from the Sasan project.While referring to reports on the relief the new project would provide to people they said that the Government may not be contemplating to include Jammu and Kashmir in the lst of those states that will receive additional power from the Sasan project . |
