| Should Govt allow separatists to attend 'Pak Day' function? | | | Majid Ahmad Srinagar, Mar 17: Like previous years, separatist leaders in Kashmir are preparing to attend the 'Pakistan Day' function celebrations at Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi on March 23. Sources told Early Time Plus that Pakistan High Commission has extended invitations to almost all the separatist leaders of Kashmir. "Around 100 separatist leaders which include hardline Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, moderate Hurriyat leaders Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Bilal Gani Lone, Prof Abdul Gani Bhat, Shabir Ahmad Shah, Nayeem Ahmad Khan and JKLF chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik have been sent invitations to attend the function," they said. While there has been rage in India against passing of a resolution by Pakistan National Assembly on execution of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, sources said, separatists will appreciate Islamabad and convey their thanks to Pakistani leaders at the High Commission in New Delhi. With most of these leaders under house arrests, they said, second rung leaders of Hurriyat groups will visit New Delhi to attend the function. A political observer while questioning the government's decision to allow separatists visit Pakistan and its High Commission in New Delhi again and again said, "Government of India and State Government should send a tough message to separatists and Pakistan this time by not allowing these so-called leaders to visit Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi. Situation in Kashmir is already volatile and giving such elements a chance would further aggravate it." "They take instructions and orders from Pakistan and execute those in Kashmir. Both centre and state governments should act tough and send a clear message to them that they can't keep whole Kashmir hostage for their petty political interests," he demanded. "While Pakistan is directly interfering in the internal affairs of our country, New Delhi allows separatists to travel freely to that country and their High Commission," he added. A local news agency quoting Mirwaiz Umar confirmed that the delegation of his faction of Hurriyat would express gratitude to Government of Pakistan for passing a resolution on Afzal Guru's hanging. Meanwhile, sources said, it was unlikely that the government would lift the restriction on the separatist leadership and allow them to travel to Delhi for the event. "Chances of allowing any separatist leader to attend the celebrations are minimal," they added.
