| AJKPC criticizes appointment of Baseer Khan as Director JK Panchayati Raj | | | ET Plus Report
Jammu, Mar 21 : Criticizing the state government for allegedly treating and considering the institutions of Panchayati Raj as a 'useless and less privileged', the All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC) today blamed Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Rural Development Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar for appointing alleged tainted officer as director of the Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj department. The AJKPC had already warned and given an ultimatum of 7 days to the state government to make all their demands fulfilled till March 24, otherwise they would launch a struggle. Chairman of the AJKPC Shafiq Mir said that though the AJKPC has nothing personal against any officer but the J&K High Court itself has asked the state government to remove Baseer Ahmad Khan from the post of Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar for the serious allegations of corruption against him. "Of course, yet the charges are not established against the officer but he is facing serious allegations and that is why the judiciary directed the state government to remove him from his earlier post" Mir said. General Secretary, Anil Sharma said, "By this transfer order once again the state government has been exposed that they were never serious for empowerment of the Panchayati Raj institutions and the Panchayat elections were held just to hoodwink the people and to receive funds from the Government of India". He further asked how an officer who in the eyes of the judiciary is not even competent to remain as a district officer can be designated as head of State Panchayati Raj department where he would be over all in charge of Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh regions . Sarpanch Ghulam Hassan Punzoo (from Kashmir), Chief spokesperson of AJKPC while condemning the government cautioned that 33000 Panches and Sarpanches of the state would fight tooth and nail if the state government do not revoke its decision of appointment of the tainted officer as head of the PRI's. The condemnation statement is also endorsed by Gautam Singh , Provincial Secretary and Bimla Devi, President Women Wing of AJKPC. |
