| Cong may pull out of coalition | | Annoyed at `mishandling' of Guru hanging | | ET Plus Report Jammu, Mar 21: Perturbed over `mishandling' of the issue of Guru hanging, the Congress is considering a pull out from the coalition. Informed sources said a meeting chaired by the president is likely to be held soon to discuss the issue. "Omar for saving his chair has undone all the work the party had done during the past five-years in the Valley. We were expecting a good show in the elections but Omar has projected us as enemies of Kashmiris and party will not take it lightly," said a senior Congress leader form Delhi. The party high command is particularly perturbed with the NC allowing MLA Er. Rashid making all kinds of statements in the House. A party leader said NC by allowing him is giving a message that it is sensitive to the pain of Kashmiri just to remain in competition with PDP. After keeping mum for some time, party high command directed Cong Ministers to oppose it and it's for this reason that Cong Ministers Sham Lal and Raman Bhalla got up against Rashid with Sham openly threatening to walk out of the coalition. "It was first public indication by the party to NC which was presuming that Cong won't react to its antics. If things don't stop here, then there is serious possibility of walking out of the coalition, which for all practical reason is just going to cost us as there is great disenchantment among public with the Government," said the Cong leader. The Cong is particularly annoyed on account of the fact that Afzal Guru issue has given handle to the BJP which was living on oxygen. The party was hoping to cast in on 11 seats won by the BJP in the last elections, as seven of its members were expelled and public sentiments was missing for the BJP at least in the State politics. Party sources said that Omar had tried to play a double game by reviving BJP to keep Cong in check and also enabling him to get a political window in the Kashmir, as things were closed as of now for him. "We are national party and if NC thinks that it can get its way with us then it's living in political delusion. It should probably first check what party had done to Sheikh Abdullah and also to Dr Farooq Abdullah when they tried to bypass us," said the Cong leader. |
