| Much before Holi, hooligans on roads aiming water balloons on girls | | | ET Plus Report
Jammu, Mar 21: Even while there is a week's time for Holi Festival, hooligans are on roads troubling the passers-by especially the women folk by hurling water balloons at various places here in the winter capital city. Shockingly, such activities are taking place in different parts of the city, with police watching the ugly scenes as mute spectators. While majority of the Legislators including Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday during the proceedings of Legislative Assembly condemned the role of BJP, MLA Jugal Kishore Sharma for making provocative gestures towards lady Minister for Social Welfare, Sakina Itoo, the common women-folk especially young girls continue to face harassment by unscrupulous elements in various parts of the city. Has Jammu Police miserably failed to tackle such hooliganism in the name of festival of colours? Only the senior police officers can answer this question that too by their actions.
A random survey of different parts of the city here by ET Plus team clearly indicates that young girls are being targeted by water balloons. And the helpless girls have nothing to do but just yell at them, which the perpetrators really "enjoy".
A group of College Girls of Government College for Women, Parade, while speaking to ET Plus on the condition of anonymity shared their bad experience of Wednesday. We were passing in one of the old city areas all of a sudden some boys started throwing water balloons on us. When we confronted with them, some policemen standing across the road specifically to prevent hooliganism looked away as if nothing has happened."
"Yesterday, I was surrounded by a band of unknown hooligans in Gandhi Nagar area. Despite protest, they pelted me with water balloons and managed to run away leaving me completely drenched," narrated another College girl.
It is not just the passers-by but the hooligans are not sparing the commuters. Once they see, girls boarding mini-buses and taking window seats, they start aiming water balloons at the window sides. "I was sitting in a mini-bus with my friend, while returning from my office. All of a sudden a water balloons came from the window and hits me at my ear. For one second I could not realize as what happened. My clothes were drenched. Few hours after I reached home, I underwent severe pain in my ear as some drops of water entered into my ear," stated another agonized working woman. |
