What delays appointment of SSP Jammu?
3/22/2013 12:33:52 AM
ET Plus Report
Jammu, Mar 21: The Jammu and Kashmir Government hasn't reached a consensus on appointing Sr Superintendent of Police (SSP) for Jammu district as many leaders of ruling National Conference (NC) are trying to put a person having proximity with their party.
The recently held Cabinet meeting transferred police officers but no consensus was reached to appoint SSP Jammu. The post is lying vacant after superannuation of SSP Prabhat Singh.
Sources in the Government told Early Time Plus that few leaders of National Conference who have close proximity with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah don't want a person close to Congress party as SSP Jammu.
"This will not suit their interests because SSP Jammu is always a political post," said a political thinker, having close eye on administrative affairs of the State.
The Parliament elections seem to be round the corner and Assembly elections not far away. Therefore, the political parties will wish that no such officer should be brought at this prime post who hinder their work during the elections. Other political parties will also not opt for a person who hampers their movement in future.
At present the SP Jammu south Rajeshwar Singh is the officiating SSP of Jammu city and may have to continue till a consensus is reached.
In a district Station House Officers (SHOs) of different police stations play important role in maintaining the law and order in their areas. It is these SHOs who give actual feedback to their seniors and information flows to political class as well. It is the SSP who chooses among his officers and appoints them as SHOs and nobody will wish that information, whether positive or negative, doesn't reach them.
The caste-ism is also playing its part in this regard. All this and much more has led to delay in appointing the full fledged SSP to Jammu district, which is also the winter capital of the State and home district to many top politicians who are going to contest the 2014 Assembly elections.
