“Bharoon Janki’ taken out with traditional religious enthusiasm

Rajouri, Mar 21: The traditional ‘Bharoon Baba Janki’ a centuries old religious procession today was taken out with religious fervor and enthusiasm in border district Rajouri amid the adequate security cover of Central Reserve Forces (CRPF) and Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP).
The festival of ‘Bharoo Baba Janki’ celebrations as per traditions started a week before main function of “Holi” like every year in this part of border district Rajouri in which thousands of people took part, not only from this town or Jammu, but across country to witness this tradition Bharoo Janki.
There is a belief among people of this part that ‘Bharoo Baba’ is guardian of evils and good for the well being and survival of Rajouri city and many legends are associated with this century old tradition. According to an aged man of Rajouri, “It’s an old saying that there was a time when Rajouri was facing droughts and dryness from successive year and people started dying owing to starvation and scarcity of water.
“It was the revered Bharoo Baba saved this part from droughts, begins this tradition which is continues till now” he added.
Hundreds of young women, male and children today assembled hours on roof tops, streets and balconies to witness the glimpse of Bharoo Baba Jhanki.
Meanwhile the district administration and security agencies including CRPF jawans and police have made adequate security arrangements to prevent any untoward incident.
Speaking to media Station House Officer, Rajouri Varinder Gupta said, “Bharoon Baba Janki is celebrated every year with religious fervor and this years as well, however police has taken all measures of security and deployed maximum for force to avert any untoward incident.”
