| Ambitious plan to expand NCC in rural, border areas, raise air & naval units in J&K: DG NCC | | | Early Times REport
Jammu, May 2: The National Cadet Corps (NCC) is embarking upon an ambitious plan to expand its network in rural and border areas besides raising Air and Naval units in the State. DG, NCC Lt Gen PS Bhalla, (PVSM, AVSM) said this while addressing a press conference at Jammu here on Thursday. He informed that a special national integration camp would be organized at Leh in August 2013 in which cadets from all over the country shall participate Elaborating on present status of NCC, the DG informed that there are 17 directorates with 13.4 lakh cadets in various parts of the country with strength of 23880 cadets in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh region. He said that the Jammu and Kashmir has been given additional vacancies for creation of new units like Air Squadron (flying), Naval Squadron and Boys Company which has already been raised with 1400 cadets at Leh to cover the Ladakh region. The DG said that timely introduction of multi pronged strategies in NCC is also being accorded focused attention to keep pace with changing world scenario. In this regard, the training procedures for the cadet have also been refined to accommodate the changing aspiration of our youth besides meeting expectations of the society. “We lay special focus on felicitating soft skills and personality development which is prerequisite for effective NCC services”, he added. He further informed that MIER College Jammu Islamia College Srinagar have been selected to undertake NCC as elective subject from this academic session. He also informed that UGC has selected 30 autonomous universities in the country where NCC has been chosen as elective subject besides all CBSE schools have also added NCC as elective subject under HRD Ministry. Spelling out measures for promotion of spirit of adventure among youth, the DG said that NCC has launched an expedition to Mt Everest, the highest peak in the world with 18 members team. Besides, 2013 has also been declared as year of environment. |
