Mian Altaf for early completion of road projects in Kulgam

SRINAGAR: Minister for Forests, Ecology and Environment, Mian Altaf Ahmad, who is also Chairman District Development Board Kulgam, instructed Deputy Commissioner Kulgam to speed up rehabilitation of affected families of 2005 Valtengo disaster. He directed the members of the committee, constituted to assess the value of the structures demolished for taking forward road projects, to submit the report within a weeks’ time so that funds required for the purpose are sanctioned by the concerned departments.
The Minister was reviewing the status of the projects raised by several public representatives in district development board meeting of Kulgam district held last month.
Deputy Commissioner, Kulgam and officers from R&B, ERA, PDD and RDD were present on the occasion.
The Minister was told that Rs. 3.72 crore were released in favour of district administration for effecting rehabilitation of 120 effected families of 2005 Valtengo disaster. He was informed that 76 hutments have been constructed apart from acquiring 10 more kanals of land for rehabilitation of remaining 44 families.
It was given out that a committee has been set up to assess the value of the structures demolished for taking forward the Mazgund and other road projects for which Rs one crore stands released against the projected cost of Rs 2.98 crore. Parigam and Bachroo bridges have been completed while work on approach roads for both the bridges is going on, the meeting was informed.
Regarding electrification of Nagras Gujjar Basti, Panzgam Nard, Shurat Omar Colony, and Takat Mohalla, the Minister was informed that power supply in certain areas has been extended while efforts are on to bring other areas under RGGY scheme during current fiscal.
The Minister asked the Deputy Commissioner to settle all land compensation cases so that the road projects taken up in the district are completed early.
