Jammu, July 30: The patients visiting the GMC&H are subjected to inconvenience as the CT scan has yet again gone out of order.
The patients are forced to conduct their tests from private laboratories. The tall claims of Minister for Medical Education, Taj Mohi-ud-din proved a hoax as for the last few days, CT scan (computerized tomography) is lying out of order again, but the callus approaches
Medical Education department has failed to cure the ailing CT scan, since long time.
It is pertinent to mention here that the CT scan was used extensively on victims of accidents, particularly in detecting injury to the brain. "CT scan is done for all accident victims who have sustained head injuries.
"Since the machine developed technical snag, few years back, the authorities seem in no mood to replace it.", said an doctor at GMC&H preferring anonymity, adding that on the contrary to Medical Education Minister's plea that state government doesn't have funds to procure new CT-Scan for Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H), in fiscal 2012-13 Rs six crore lapsed, due to non-procurement of said machine. Sources at Health and Medical Education (MHE) Department, informed ETP that to replace existing CT-Scan machine and allied machinery at Radio Diagnose department of GMC&H Rs six crore were sanctioned, which had lapsed even after repeated request from HME to utilize sanctioned funds for the purpose. "Commissioner Secretary, MHE had asked Medical Superintendent Dr Manoj Chaltora to place procurement orders for new CT-scan Machine, but the directions were not followed officer at helm of affairs, as the old machine has over lived," sources alleges adding that the measures suggested by the Medical Education Minister, Taj Mohi-ud-din would take time and overburdened hospital can't wait for implementation of PPP mode.
Adoctor at GMC&H told EPT that that the patients are being forced to conduct their CT-Scan at private laboratories by paying huge amount. "Nominal fees were being charged in hospital for said test, same service is being given free of cost to BPL patients, every patient is facing high stoke of fees which being charged at private laboratories."
"Over twenty patients at GMC&H on daily bases are facing hassle due non-functioning of the said machine. As expert has declared the machine defunct, the authorities should procure new machine as early as possible," he advised.
