BJP stages protests; submits memorandums on ULB polls

Jammu, July 30: Under party's state-wide programme, BJP district units held protests and submitted memorandums to the concerned Deputy Commissioners/ Tehsildars containing the party's concern over delay in holding elections to the Municipal Corporation, Committees and Councils.
Jammu District President Rajesh Gupta led the protest march of the party activists from Shaheedi Chowk to DC Office here where a massive protest was held at memorandum submitted to the DC. BJP State President Jugal Kishore Sharma, leader of the Legislative Party Ashok Khajuria, former Mayor Kavinder Gupta and other leaders also joined the district programme.
Addressing the protestors Sharma said that it is unfortunate that the elections to the Urban Local Bodies have been delayed for the last over three years for the reasons best known to the government. "Last elections were held in 2005 after 23 years and the people were expecting that the exercise will be held regularly. The problems of the people related to sanitation were solved with the active role of elected corporators, the cities and towns had facelift with construction of public conveniences and public parks," he said and added that the government should immediately hold the elections so that the public is not made to suffer.
Khajuria said that the government's commitment to ensure the democracy to flourish at the grass-roots level has been exposed as it has been delaying the elections to the ULBs on one pretext or the other. He said that the role of the elected representatives of the Congress in the state assembly have been totally negative as they have compromised on the issue for sake of power. He also criticized certain officials of Jammu Municipal Corporation who have been working at the dictates of the even ward level activists of Congress and National Conference.
BJP District President Dina Nath Bhagat alongwith party leaders Pawan Gupta and Pawan Khajuria submitted memorandum to the DC at Udhampur, District President Ajay Nanda submitted similar memorandum to DC Reasi. Samba District President Kashmira Singh submitted memorandum to the DC alongwith party activists. Ramban District President Vijay Mohan Thakur submitted memorandum to DC alongwith his party activists.
At R S Pura District President Sat Pal Pappi submitted memorandum to Tehsildar. Kathua District President Vijay Sharma submitted memorandum to DC while Akhnoor District President Sukhdev Singh submitted memorandum at Akhnoor.
At Rajouri District President Bharat Bhushan Vaid submitted the memorandum to the DC. At Poonch, Sunil Gupta submitted memorandum.
Doda District Prahbari Shakti Parihar submitted the memorandum to DC Doda alongwith other leaders. At Basohli memorandum was submitted by district president. Sunderbani-Nowshera Dr. Ashok Sharma led the party activists to SDM to submit memorandum.
Meanwhile, BJP also staged a protest demonstration against the State Government for its failure to conduct Urban Local Bodies' elections despite repeated announcements to hold the same.
Led by senior BJP leader and ex-president Municipal Council Udhampur president, Pawan Khajuria held a protest in front of Deputy Commissioner's office blaming the state govt for not conducting municipal elections in the state.
Shouting slogans, the BJP activists alleged that the Government is not serious to strengthen the democracy at grass root level and deliberately delaying the ULB polls.
