| Soz, Mehbooba condemned killings | | Curfew in Shopian, Kulgam; Sit in outside the CRPF camp | | Javaid Naikoo
Srinagar, Sept 9 : Authorities imposed strict curfew in south Kashmir's Shopian and Kulgam districts on Sunday to maintain law and order and avoid any civilian casualty. According to officials details, the need for curfew was felt after it was assessed that law and order problem could arise in both towns as the three local people got killed in yesterday's incident of firing. Meanwhile, hundreds of men, women and children after breaking curfew restrictions reached to Gagren area of Shopian for a peaceful sit in to demand removal of CRPF camp from the area where four people were killed yesterday. The details reveal that violent clashes between security forces and police broke out in Gagren, soon after the sit in. People from Baba Mohalla area,the native place of one Towseef Ahmad who got killed yesterday came out of their homes and started massive stone pelting with security forces which continued the whole day. The details reveal that Police and CRPF personnel deployed in the area had to use tear smoke shells and aerial firing to disperse the protestors after violent clashes broke out in Bongam, Aliyalpora, Meemendr, Shirmal and Baba Mohala areas and the ding dong battles between security forces and stone pelters were going on till last reports came from the area. Curfew was also imposed in Kulgam town as according to police statements one of the militants killed in yesterdays firing incident namely Tariq Ahmad Mir son of Ghulam Nabi Mir of Okay Kulgam. The police sources revealed that Tariq ahmad Mir of Kulgam district and Muhammad Yousuf of Shopian district were identified as senior members of Jammat-i-Islami and both were involved in militant activities, however the one dead body which is lying Distrcit police lines shopian could not be identified yet. Pertinently according to the officials details a CRPF checking party was fired upon by some anti national elements in Gagran, Shopian yesterday resulting in a gun fight between CRPF and killed militants in which three anti national elements got killed and from their possession One pistol and two grenades were recovered. Howevr In the same incident two more civil identified as Towseef Ahmed Bhat son of Gul Mohammad resident of Baba Mohalla Shopian and Aadil Rehman Wachkoo son of Abdul Rehman resident of Shopian got injured among which Towseef later died on way to Hospital where as the condition of Adil Rehman is said to be stable now. Meanwhile Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh congress committee (JKPCC) president, Saif ud din soz and people's democratic party(PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti condemned the killings by the security forces in Shopian and said that killing incident is very unfortunate and painful. In their separate messges, Saif ud din soz while condemning the incident said that Shopian incident is painful and highly deplorable incident and asked state government to clarify the reasons behind the killing, while as PDP patron Mehbooba Mufti while condemning the incident said that "labeling the civilians as militants is like rubbing salts on the wounds of families who's dear ones were killed'. |
