Katra, Sept 8: Tri-junction on national highway “Bhambla Chowk”, connecting three districts of Jammu, Rajouri and Reasi has seemingly turned into a “No Man’s Land” for traffic police, as concerning officers of said three districts have washed off their hands to own the responsibility of regulating prevailing traffic chaos, which has so far claimed around half a dozen lives. Due to prevailing traffic chaos at the Bhambla Chowk, atleast half a dozen pedestrians have been killed in last few months, despite the fact that police personnel remained there at the tri-junction but never directed bus drivers to park vehicles some meters away from busy Chowk. The Bhambla Chowk, is disputed as per the version give by traffic police officials of all three districts. SSP National Highway Ramban Virender Sharma, DySP Traffic police Rajouri, said that the area was not under their jurisdiction, while SSP Traffic police Jammu, Manmohan Singh also maintained same adding that he would ask District Transport Officer Rajouri, to look into the matter. Criticizing the traffic police officials Sarpanch of Bhambla Kewal Krishan said that it was only due to parking of buses, matadors at Chowk that jam like situation occurred round the clock and pedestrians have to face hurdles to even cross the road”. He further said that matadors drivers generally run matadors on high speed endangering innocent lives. “There is lot of parking space, just 20 meters ahead and behind the Chowk, but drivers don’t park vehicles there. In the last few months, the high speed and wrong parking has claimed half a dozen lives, but concerned authorities remained mute spectator over the issue”, he rued. He further said that even some police officials remained there at the Chowk, but they did nothing. “So far, I have met SSP Traffic Jammu Rural, several times and apprised him about the serious problem, but they gave only assurances and nothing has been done so far”, he said. He further said that he had also submitted written applications before SSP Traffic, but all in vain. |
