| Who briefed BJP's PM nominee? | | Modi forgets Kashmiri Pandits, refugees, terror victims | | Syed Junaid Hashmi
JAMMU, Dec 1: Nominated as BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate and considered the triumph card of RSS, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi left displaced Kashmiri Pandits, Refugees, Amarnath Yatra and victims of Kishtwar violence crestfallen. He did not speak even a word about these three critical issues which BJP as well as RSS leaders rake up as and when they get a chance in any part of the country. He spoke about Shias, Gujjars, Bakerwal, people living in Damchok, youth of Jammu and Kashmir but made no mention of BJP's critically important agenda for upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the state. Refugees constitute an important vote bank on Jammu-Poonch Parliamentary constituency while as Kishtwar violence coupled with continued controversy over Amarnath Yatra are such emotive issues which are believed to help BJP in giving tough competition to nay political party, be it Congress or National Conference (NC), on Udhampur-Doda constituency. Kashmiri Pandits are essential part of RSS and BJP's discourse in rest of the country. Yet the advisors who were supposed to brief Modi about the issues to be taken up during the speech seemingly preferred allowing BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate to use his oratory skills instead of making a sound statement on the critical issues concerning commoners in Jammu and Kashmir. Local leadership of BJP seemingly failed to brief Modi about the issues which party raises to get votes in Jammu and Kashmir. The local leadership of BJP did not tell him that younger generation is no more interested in the discourse on Article 370 nor have they inclination of learning from him about woman not having right to property after marriage in Jammu and Kashmir. They preferred feeding Modi with their own agenda and if the insiders are to be believed, BJP's ace man was left wanting while speaking to the audience in Jammu and Kashmir for the first time. He could have made a policy statement, spoken a language of strong leader and made his intentions known to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, if those briefing him would have briefed him properly. People are talking about Modi having talked about Panchayati Raj and need to empower Panchayats but making no mention of Kashmiri Pandits living in a rural pocket of Jammu in Jagti yet having no power to vote for their own Panchayat. He talked about Kishtwar in Bangalore but made no mention here on the soil where incident took place. Not even a single word was heard from Modi. The victims of Kishtwar violence were part of the crowd and left disappointed. All and one, they blamed the local leaders. They have been left high and dry. Buddhists of Ladakh, Paharis alongwith Sunni Kashmiri Muslims who constituted an important component of the crowd that had gathered in MAM Stadium to listen to Narendra Modi found no mention of them in their speech. Modi did not talk a word about the Police Personnel who lost their lives in a Fidayeen attack in Samba district of Jammu region. Though he talk about discrimination but did not make it clear what he meant by this. He preferred not to speak explicitly about regional discrimination and instead, used his oratory skills to make a point. |
