BHADERWAH, Dec 6: While no noticeable infrastructure development has taken place in Bhaderwah over the past few years, even the roads have now gone from bad to worse. Condition of the road network of the district is very poor and no repairs have been done over the years, is the common refrain of the residents. It is said that the roads are the lifeline of development and if you want to see the development of a particular area just go and watch the roads.Keeping this in view, we can say that the inhabitants of Sartingal , Sungli , Monda , Basti , Sherakhi and other villages are up in arms against the government for its failure to repair dilapidated road stretch which is the boundary and main connectivity to areas. According to the locals, one kilometer long Sartingal-Sherakhi road is in pathetic condition from Sungli village to Sartingal. "The road has numerous potholes due to which people travelling in public transport and private vehicles face huge problems," said Desh Raj Katal. He added that many persons have developed health problems due to the dust clouds. "People residing on either side of road are worst sufferers. We cannot sit in our balconies or lawns. Condition is such worse that we cannot even open the windows of our houses. Each time a vehicle passes through, a cloud of dust enters inside," said Wasim. Locals claimed that the road was constructed about fifteen years back. Since then, this road has been dug several times by BSNL and PHE department to lay cables and pipes. Department people just come, do their job and fill up the digging sites formally, leaving behind the people to suffer. "It has affected our business a lot, due to the worst condition of the road we were compelled to spend thirty thousand rupees to get the shutter area covered with glass, just to keep off dust," rued shopkeeper Sanjay Kumar said. Residents of the area said that despite repeated pleas, the officials of the Roads and Buildings department failed to undertake any repair works."We submitted several representations with senior functionaries of the Department, but they failed to do anything substantial in this regard," locals added. The residents sought the intervention of District Development Commissioner in this regard. |
