Tributes paid to Ambedkar by SC/ST employees of JU
12/6/2013 11:25:10 PM
Jammu, Dec 6: Jammu University Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe Employees Association organised a special meet in Hotel Hot Millions here today wherein Association members paid floral tributes to Bharat Ratna Babasaheb Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar on his Nirvan Diwas. While addressing the meet, the Association President R.L. Kaith said Dr Ambedkar had a very strong personality. He was not a man who could be led by others. He was a man of strong words. He did not like to mince matters. He spoke out his views clearly, wrote systematically and authoritatively. Like a true lawyer, he had his arguments always ready at the tips of fingers. This gave him decided precision, clarity and authority not only to his speeches and writings but also to his debates in Parliament. It is remarkable, however, that despite his hot and impatient nature he believed completely in parliamentary practice and decorum and obeyed and submitted with respect to the orders of the Chair in Parliament. Only on one occasion did he stage a wall-out, and that was when he was refused an opportunity to speak on his resignation. He believed in 'government by discussion' and also by persuasion but not by force. Ambedkar worked hard for the uplift of the Depressed Classes from the down trodden position they were living in, as a result of social, economic, religious and political disabilities, sanctioned by religion and imposed by custom. The Indian society according to him was a post undemocratic society, where the people were compartmentalized into classes and castes, not according to aptitude, ability or profession but because of birth, and this position to continue indefinitely, the son confirming himself to the hereditary calling of his father. This is how the chatarvornaya scheme of Hindu social organisation had ordained it.

Ambedkar resented it and worked to prepare public opinion against it, Kaith added.
After paying tributes to Babasaheb, the Association discussed the reservation matters and stated that the Establishment Branch of the University has, many a time, tampered the Reservation Roster Register with an object to deprive the SCs & STs of the reservation benefits and this has been brought to the notice of the authorities several times but they keep mum. It seems that they have their hand behind the officers of the said branch involved in wrong doings. Adding further they said that despite their repeated requests, the authorities are not granting audience to them to listen to their genuine pleas.

All the Associations and Unions in the University have been provided accommodation for their offices but our Representative Body despite government recognised, has no office in the University and they have to hold their meetings on the ground which is a matter of great shame, the Association members alleged.
Association passed a resolution to urge the Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohan Paul Singh Ishar to pay attention towards the matter.
Prominent among others who participated in the meet in included Messrs Surinder Kumar Shavotra, Surjeet Singh Heer, Om Parkash, Mohan Lal, Bodh Raj Angral, Sukh Dev Bhagat, Kunj Lal, Narinder Kumar, Raj Singh Nandan and Mulkh Raj.
