Inter-college Table Tennis Tournament MAM, MBS, MIET enter pre-quarters

JAMMU, Dec 09: Government MAM College, Mahant Bachiter Singh (MBS) College and MIET College won their respective matches to move into the next round of pre-quarterfinals on the opening day of the annual inter-college table tennis tournament, organised by Department of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu at Gymnasium Hall on the campus, here today.
In the first match, MAM College defeated Bhaskar Degree College Udhampur 3-1. The Results: Singles: Nitin Dubey beat Rajat Singh 11-08,12-10; Shreyans Jain beat Sahil Ahmad 11-02,14-12; Asif lost to Sanjeev Jamwal 11-13,13-11,04-11. Reverse singles: Rajat beat Shreyan Jain 11-08,11-05.
The second match went in favour of MBS College, who trounced SRS College 3-1. The Results: Singles: Tanveer Singh beat Jatinder Pal 11-04,11-01; Gurvinder Singh beat Ikjot Singh 11-03,11-07; Karanjeet Singh lost to Ramandeep Singh 09-11,09-11. Reverse Singles: Gurvinder Singh beat Jatinder Pal 11-04,11-05.
In another scheduled match of the day, MIET College defeated Bharti College of Education 3-0. The Results: Abhishek Arora beat Vicky 11-03,11-03; SumitMahajan beat Sourav 12-10,11-02; Kanav Sharma beat Dipesh 11-03,11-02.
Meanwhile, remaining seven matches scheduled for today ended in either walkover or both the teams, supposed to play each-other, failed to report.
Five matches ended in walkovers. While Government College of Education got walkover Government Degree College (GDC) Kishtwar, Government Degree College (GDC) Ramnagar got walkover Trikuta Degree College. The GDC Paloura awarded walkover GDC Poonch while Government SPMR College of Commerce got walkover GDC Rajouri. The GGM Science College got walkover The Law School.
Today's matches officiated by technical penal including Ravish Vaid, Gourav Sharma, Rekha Ratra and Suresh Sharma.
Walkovers galore in women's TT
Meanwhile, all the five matches, scheduled for today, in women's section ended in walkover. The combined side of Post Graduate Departments got walkover GDC Ramnagar while GDC Paloura awarded walkover GDC Reasi. In other matches, Government College for Women (GCW) Parade got walkover Government College of Education and GGM Science College awarded walkover Trikuta Degree College.
In another scheduled match, both GWC Udhampur and GDC Samba failed to report the venue.


State TT C’ship from Dec 11

JAMMU, Dec 9: Jammu and Kashmir Table Tennis Association shall be holding the 35th State Championship at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here from December 11 to December 15.
Teams from the different districts shall take part in this inter-district state championship which is sponsored by the J&K State Sports Council.
Meanwhile, a handout issued here today informed that the interested participants can still submit their entries for the competition. Players have to submit their entries with Satish Gupta, Meenu and Narinder Singh before December 10.
Volleyball trials from Dec 16

JAMMU, Dec 9: Volleyball Association of J&K has decided to conduct open selection trails for the upcoming 16th Youth (boys) National Volleyball Championship to be held at Khatoo Shyamgi in Rajasthan from January 30 to February four.
The three-day selection process shall take place at MA Stadium, here from December 16 to December 18. Interested players have been advised to report the venue at 2.30 pm during the trial days. Players born on or after 01-01-1993 are only eligible to participate in the trails, an Association handout issued here today said. Players should bring along original Date of Birth Certificates with photographs affixed. The coaching camp for the selected probable shall be held from January 16 to January 28 at Shastri Nagar Play Field, the handout mentioned.


Bhallessa T-20 Cricket Tournament Concludes

DODA, Dec 9: To provide a platform for sports event, Bhallessa T-20 cricket tournament was conducted by Sohanda 26 Rashtriya Rifles of Suigarh Rashtriya Rifles Sector (Delta Force) from 17 Nov 2013 concluded here at Gundoh (Bhallessa). Total of 24 teams participated in the tournament. The final match was played between Fresh Bathri and New Star Gwari today which was won by New Star Gwari. The event provided an opportunity to the youths of this remote area of Bhallessa region to participate in a competitive tournament played over 20 days and also improve sports skills. The finals were witnessed by approx 400 locals. Officials from civ adm and PMF were also present. Both individual and team prizes were awarded to the winning teams. This event gave a chance to the youth of this area to participate in this popular and famous game. All the matches played during the competition were very competitive and friendly. The locals and youths participated with enthusiasm and were happy with the conduct of this tournament and extended their support to Army 26 RR and said this will channelize their energies towards sporting activities .

GDC Samba bags Police Volleyball Friendship Cup

SAMBA, Dec 9: Government Degree College (GDC) Samba today bagged the3rd phase of Range Police Volleyball Friendship Cup Tournament beating Kendriya Vidyala Samba Club in straight sets in the final, played here today.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Headquarter Samba, Munish Anand was chief guest in the valedictory function, who gave away winners and runners-up trophies. Vice Principal of GDC Samba, Attar Singh was guest of honour.
Earlier, Vice Principal of the host college, Prof. Attar Singh appreciated the Samba Police for providing the young talent a platform to excel.
Among others present were Dr M S Pathania, Prof.Neetu Singh, Prof Jagdish Kumar, D.Sandhaya Rani, Prof.Renu Rajput, Prof Anupama Kumari, Prof Sarabjeet Kour, Dr Deepika Gupta, Neelam Chalotra, SHO Rajinder Singh and Sub-Inspector, Khalil Ahmad. This tournament was organized by Range Police Headquarters Jammu under the civic action programme. In all, eight teams of the district took part in this knock-out competition.
Later, Coordinator of the tournament, Rajesh Gill informed that the fourth phase of the Range Police Volleyball Friendship Cup shall be organized at Akhnoor from December 11.


4th Sher-e-Kashmir Gold Cup Football
Mussa Club win in tie-breaker, enters QFs

JAMMU, Dec 9: Beating J&K Bank Academy 5-4 in tie-breaker, Mussa Club today made it to the quarterfinals of the 4th Sher-e-Kashmir Gold Cup Football Tournament, organised by Youth National Conference at GGM Science College ground, here.
The high voltage second round game ended in a 1-1 draw in the stipulated time with Bank Academy taking first lead in the very 14th minute of the match through Faizal Thakur.
However, fighting Mussa Club brought in the equalizer in the 58th minute to spark jubilation in the camp. Prem netted the important goal beating the guard at the net.
To decide the fate of the game, the organizers applied tie-breaker rules wherein Mussa Club emerged winner. Rishi Chetri, Shekhar Sindhu, Mehtab Singh and Vikas Sodhi were successful in their attempts from winning Mussa Club while Mohd Kahleed missed.
Similarly, Faizal Thakur, Parul Sharma and Ifham Tariq netted the ball while Uneeb Wani and Liaqat Wani missed the target.
Earlier, the organizers had a tough time to control the crowd, especially those supporting Mussa Club. Time and again these supporters approached the line making it difficult for the line referees to deliver judgments. Crossing their limits, the entire supporting crowd entered the field to pat the team for bringing in the equalizer.
Today's match officiated by the technical penal including Koushal Sharma, Moon Stephen, Haranjeet Singh and Harmeel Singh.
FIXTURE: Churchill Brothers take on Akhnoor Tigers at 1.30 pm; JKSRTC shall meet Young Rovers at 3 pm tomorrow.



23rd District Poonch TT Tourney
Salil faces Sandeep in men's singles final

POONCH, Dec 9: Sandeep Luthra shall take on Salil Raina to defend the men's singles title in the ongoing 23rd District table tennis Championship, organized by District Table Tennis Association at Government Degree College, here tomorrow.
Earlier, in first semifinals, played today, Salil Raina defeated Gurjot Singh in straight but close sets of 11-08,11-09,11-08 while Sandeep trounced Gagan 3-2 (11-09, 07-11, 09-11, 11-07, 11-09) in a well contested game.
Meanwhile, in men's doubles event, Salil and Sandeep shall take on the pair of Saleem Bandey and Gurjot. Semifinals: Salil and Sandeep bt Gagan and Paropkar 11-08,11-09; Saleem Bandey and Gurjot bt Narinder and Marshall 11-09,11-09, 08-11,09-11, 11-08.
The veteran men's title went to Narinder Singh, who beat Jasbir Singh 2-1 (09-11, 11-07, 11-08) in the final. Semifinals: Narinder Singh bt Saleem Bandey 11-08, 09-11,11-09; Jasbir Singh bt Ravinder Singh 11-03,11-07.
The finals of the tournament shall be played tomorrow, followed by the valedictory function. District Development Commissioner, Poonch, Sajad Ahmed Khan has consented to be chief guest.

11th State open Athletic C’ship-2013
Sahai declares open 11th State Athletic C’ ship

Jammu, Dec.9 :11th State Athletic Championship was declared open by SM Sahai, IPS Addl. Director General Police (ARMED) today at M.A Stadium, Jammu.
About 350 Athletes from various districts of j&k State took part in the March past in the glithering ceremomy attended by glaxy of sports enthusiasts, sports promoters and well wishers. YSS, Samba organises Distt. Level Trials of Mastogi Do Martial arts

jammu, Dec 9: Youth services and sports samba organised Distt. Level Trials of Mastogi Do Martial arts in Humanity Public School (Bassi Kalan, Bari Brahmana).
On the occasion Sh. JARPAL SINGH (Youth services and sports Distt. Officer, Samba) was the Chief Guest. The other dignitaries present on the occasion were Principal of HPS. Gaurav Charak, Master Anirudh Singh, Pankaj Mehra (Organizer, Mastogi-Do-Association) and Officials - Harjeet Kour, Jagpreet Kour, Karanjeet Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Ravia Siyal, Ashutosh Khajuria, Samrat Mahajan, Sarita Bandral and Suman Bate.
60 players from different schools of Samba Distt. participated in the Trials.
In girls under 14 years the students of HPS namely Neha Jaral, Rumani, Yasmeen Akthar were declared winners.
In boys under 14 years the students of APS Bari- Brahmana Jasbir Singh, Akhil Bharti , Sourav Sharma were the winners.
Under 17 boys and girls students of HPS namely (Boys) Vishal, Mukesh, Nikhil Jaral and Girls: Shivani Sharma, Vishali Bhagat, Pallavi were adjudged winners.
In under 19 boys / girls students namely (Boys): Shaajad Ahmed, Mohd Aasim, Tarun Sharma of (APS Bari Brahmana) were declared as winners.
Girls: Ujala Gupta, Nisha Devi, Priyanka Devi (Govt.Hr. Sec School (Vijaypur) were winners.
The overall trophy was won by the students of HPS for their Excellent-Performance. On the occasion the chief guest appreciated the efforts of the organizing committee for organizing such an impressive event and assured them full co-operation in future. While on the occasion principal of HPS said that such events not only help students to enhance their skills and hidden talents but to have a true sportsmanship. As further he said that the present scenario of education in general help their identity and solve the challenges of life by accruing skills, knowledge and attitude.
The students were also honoured along with the officials. The stage was maintained by Sandeep Zutshi.
