| Frustrated NC cannot take people for granted | | Article 370 is atrocious | | Neha JAMMU, Dec 9: The frustrated NC leadership is saying that Article 370 of the Constitution of India governs the relationship between State and the Union of India and is warning that any attempt to "alter it, unilaterally, will have disastrous consequences". It is asserting that it was after 5 months long deliberations from May 16, 1949 to October 1949 between the State representatives headed Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and the Central team headed by Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru that this Article was conceptualized and that the matter was then discussed elaborately in the Constituent Assembly of India and it was after long debate and discussion that Article 370 came into existence. The NC should not insult the people of the state by terming Sheikh Abdullah as their representative. He had captured power by hatching a conspiracy against Maharaja Hari Singh in collaboration with Jawaharlal Nehru in 1947 and he manipulated the 1951 constituent assembly elections to play dangerous and communal games through it. And why the way on whose behalf Sheikh Abdullah talked with Nehru about the nature of relationship he wanted to have between the state and the centre? The People of Jammu province, who had all along rejected the Sheikh's separatist and communal ideology, had not given him the mandate to seek a special status on the score of religion. Similarly, the people of Ladakh who, like the people of Jammu, had all through condemned the Sheikh's communal ideology and anti-India approach, had not authorized him to negotiate with Nehru the centre-state relations. In fact, the people of Ladakh and Jammu had raised a hue and cry against Sheikh and Nehru and told the latter that they be separated from Kashmir as they didn't want to live under the Sheikh's communal, separatist and discriminatory dispensation. The attitude of the people of Jammu and Kashmir remains the same even today. The people of Jammu and Ladakh, barring a few disgruntled elements here and there are against Article 370. The SCs, the STs and the OBCs are against Article 370. They describe it as a deadly poison. The refugees from West Pakistan are opposed to it. The refugees from the POJK are opposed to it. The internally displaced Kashmiri Hindus are opposed to Article 370. The womenfolk, who constitute half the state population are opposed to it and are fighting legal battles to obtain property and residency rights for the children of the daughters of the state married outside the state to "non-state subjects. Only some vested interests who have been exploiting the system to enrich themselves at the cost of the state and the people are for the pernicious and anti-people Article 370. The NC must read the writing on the wall and stop singing the seditious and communal Article 370 nasty song. |
