| Custodian land in J&K: Private largesse of separatists, Babus, businessman | | Sajjad Lone, Shafi Uri's son among beneficiaries | | Syed Junaid Hashmi
JAMMU, Dec 9: Evacuee Property department has of late been turned into private largesse of influential bureaucrats, politicians, businessmen and so-called separatists.
Separatist-turned-mainstream politician Sajjad Lone, who has a residential house at Sanatnagar, has got land measuring around 7 marlas on lease for a period of 40 years, starting from August 10, 2011. According to documents available with Early Times, Lone has paid Rs. 11.02 lakh as premium. Evacuee department has, thus, given the 7 Marla land to lone at Rs. 1.57 lakh per Marla.
According to people living in Srinagar city, this is 1/3rd of the cost which a commoner pays for purchasing 1 Marla of land in posh Sanatnagar locality. Not only this, Sajjad Lone would be paying a paltry sum of Rs. 140 as rent for this land. Thus, he would pay Rs. 67, 200 in 40 years to the state kitty. In comparison to this, Tourist Taxi Stand at Tangbagh in Srinagar which belongs to commoners has been paying Rs. 22,000 per month for 3 Kanals and 7 Marlas of land.
Besides, the land has been leased out to Tourist Taxi Stand on year to year basis and not like others for 20 0r 40 years. Vice-Chairman (VC) Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) Shafat Noor Berlas has got an evacuee property set at Sanatnagar on his name. It has been leased out to him on June 26, 2010 and he has been paying Rs. 2500 as rent. The document has kept the premium column of Berlas vacant.
Dr. Mohammed Shafi son of National Conference (NC) Member Parliament (MP) Mohammed Shafi Uri has got lease of 1 Kanal and 2 Marlas of land in Majeed Bagh for 40 years. The land has been leased out to him on October 21, 2010 after he paid premium worth Rs. 13.30 lakh. Evacuee property department has fixed Rs. 210 per month as rent for the leased land.
Ex-GAD Secretary has got land measuring 1 Kanal and 3 Marlas on lease for 40 years after paying a premium of Rs. 7 lakh at Majeed Bagh. He would be paying a paltry sum of Rs. 100 per month as rent for the said land.
He was granted lease on June 13, 2009. Social welfare minister Sakina Itoo's sister Rubiya Wali Itoo has got 19 Marlas of land in Majeed Bagh after paying a sum of Rs. 17.10 lakh. Lease was granted to him on December 17, 2009. Rent for her has been fixed at Rs. 158 per month for 19 Marlas of land. One Mohammed Afzal Wani has got a hall in third floor of Hyderpora shopping complex on lease.
The lease has been given to him for 20 years after paying a premium of Rs. 8.50 lakh and he would further be paying Rs. 1840 as rent per month. The lease has been granted him to on May 26, 2009. Businessman Zafar Ahmed Tramboo has got shop on first floor of Hyderpora shopping complex after paying a premium of Rs. 12.50 lakh for a period of 20 years from September 25, 2009.
He would further be paying an amount of Rs. 1650 per month as rent. 1 Kanal of land at Majeed Bagh has been leased out to one Mehmood Ahmed Shah for 40 years on December 17, 2009. He has paid a premium of Rs. 18 lakh and would be paying Rs. 166.66 as rent. The Congress headquarter on M.A.Road has been leased out to JKPCC on year to year basis without paying any premium. The party has been paying a rent of Rs. 6345.
It needs to be mentioned here that J&K has over 1.80 lakh acres of evacuee's property land in the state, of which nearly 70,000 acres is in Jammu. Total evacuee property in the state is about 69,000 acres and 31,500 acres respectively. Evacuee land is the left out property of those who migrated to Pakistan during 1947. |
