Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 9: Anticipating public fury against Congress substantiated by the recent results to the Assembly elections in four states, National Conference which is in an alliance with the Congress has now termed it biggest threat for itself.
NC Additional General Secretary Mustafa Kamaal addressing a function in Rajouri, said that if there was any danger to the party it was from the Congress.
Mustafa Kamaal had launched scathing attack against the Congress in the past is likely to further sour the relations between two alliance partners through his recent statement. Kamaal's statement also reflects the nervousness of the party which is itself staring at loss in the next Parliamentary and assembly elections.
Kamaal made this remarks after Congress had taken strong exception to the unilateral decision of the NC in announcing its three candidates from the Kashmir division for the Parliamentary elections. Cong hold the view that NC should have consulted it as Cong was also claiming to contest alteast one seat from Kashmir.
NC knows that Congress has eaten up most of the political space of the NC especially in Jammu and PDP had already cut it to the size in Kashmir division.
Congress, which is seen as 'Indian entity' in the Kashmir, has made NC dependable on it and had vetoed its many proposals and moves which are against the country like Women Disqualification and Islamic Univ bill which were supported by NC also.
Congress had also openly contested the demand of removal of AFSPA by Omar Abdullah had also made him to bring ordinance to stop election of block development council without reservations to SC, ST and women.
These were the moves which were not to the liking of NC who had developed habit of running the state like its fiefdom but the Congress has not allowed to have its way as per its wishes.
Its for this reason that NC is frustrated and this reflects in the statement of Kamaal who had in the past also with similar statements virtually snapped the ties between coalition partners. With elections round the corner, such statements are likely to intensify as NC is finding it cornered in all directions.
