70,000 expected to participate in Voters Awareness Day

Jammu, Dec 9: More than 60,000-70,000 people are expected to participate in the election awareness and education functions scheduled to be held at 149 locations in the district tomorrow which coincides with World Human Right Day.
The mammoth has been organized under Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) plan under guidelines of Election Commission of India and the event is all set to form a national record.
More than 1850 officials have been deputed at these 147 Panchayats and 2 Urban Towns where 301 polling stations have been linked. This was revealed in a SVEEP review meeting chaired by District Election Officer. The function coincides with World Human Rights days and is designed to promote vote as a fundamental right and ensure compulsory voluntary voting.
The functions will have sessions on awareness about Voting rights, formalities required for enrolling as voters and various programmes related to voter education as desired by the Election Commission.
This mega programme as culmination of more than 45 days of preparation and coordinated efforts has been organised for voter education, ensuring increased participation and bringing out the critical gaps in voter participation as well as analyzing the preparation for a better participated election in the district.
Eight teams of 32 district officers will carry out random inspections at these venues and 23 nodal officers have been deputed for cluster of panchayats apart from 149 observers at each venue. Elaborate security arrangements have been made at all the places and along with mobile teams.
District Election Officer Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary appreciated the inter-departmental coordination for making this even a record of sorts for voters' awareness and strengthening democracy and has appealed to the general public for turning up in greater number in this awareness and educative exercise for the cause of a stronger democracy.
