Awareness prog on climate changes & its effects organized

KATHUA, Dec 9: To educate the masses regarding climate change and its effects, Committee on Environment, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council organised seminar cum awareness camp at sports stadium, Kathua today.
Chairman Committee on Environment J&K Legislative Council Dr. Bashir Ahmad Shah Veeri was the chief guest on the occasion. MLC Mohd. Rafiq Shah. MLC. Abdul Majid Bhat, MLC Shyam Lal Bhagat, MLC Subash Gupta, DDC Kathua Jitendra Kumar Singh and SSP, Kathua Mr Mohan Lal were present on the occasion.
Chairman along with others members of the committee inspected the stalls of various departments which include Horticulture, District Industries Centre, Forest, Education. Fisheries, PHE J&K Pollution control Board and Agriculture which displayed programmes going on through them to keep check on the climate change and its effects.
About 11 students drawn from various government and private institutions participated in the seminar and expressed their views on the topic climate change and its effects. They stressed the need to keep check on the pollution causing sources like automobiles and industries. They appealed the people for planting more and more trees to keep the earth green and safe for all. A painting competition was also organized on the occasion on the important issue of climate change.
Chairman while speaking on the occasion said that climate change started with the very beginning of industrialization. He said that industries and automobiles are causing pollution which has resulted in the global warming affecting the various forms of life on the earth. He said that change in climate has resulted in change in the seasons. Storms, cyclones, cloudburst etc are the result of the change in the climate. He appealed the representatives of panchyats religious organizations, social organizations to educate the masses about this important issue for the safety and security of the coming generations.
The others members of the committee also spoke on the occasion and stressed that clean environment is important and it is our duty to save the environment. Among others officers of various departments, members of panchyats, senior citizens and students were present. The Environment committee J&L legislative council under the chairmanship Member legislative Council Dr. Syed Bashir Ahmed shah( Veeri) convened a meeting of District officers at Ranjit Sagar Dam to discussed various issues related environment ( climate change and its effects) after the completion of Ranjit Sagar Dam the other day. In the meeting various issues related climate change and its effects were discussed with the district officers.
