| Promised Stores remain elusive as farmers rue non availability of fertilizers | | | ET REPORT Kathua, Dec 13: Farmers of district Kathua are facing the problem of unavailability of the fertilizers and allied material. The plan of biggest fertilizer store at Kathua has turned out to be mere hollow promise. Presently, 58 thousand hector land is under kharif cultivation in Kathua but farmers are concerned over unavailability of fertilizers and are impelled to procure fertilizers from neighbouring Punjab. State president of Bharitya Kissan Sangh Shivdev Singh told that farmers of district kathua are facing the problem of unavailability of fertilizers every year. "Agriculture department setup the kissan kharid Kendra in every tehsil for sale of fertilizers at subsidized rates, but when quota finishes in the centre farmers, are compelled to purchase fertilizers from other parts of state or from Punjab at higher prices. According to reliable sources, few years back, department proposed a plan for the fertilizer store at Railway station Kathua. According to plan, the stock of whole state was to be stored at kathua and thereafter distributed to the entire kissan kharid Kendra. But the plan is still in files and problem is being faced by the farmers. Clarifying the situation of fertilizer quota Chief Agriculture Officer Vipin Sambyal said there is a fixed quota of fertilizer for every district. When quota finishes in any district, department requests the government for additional allocation. He said department had raised the problems of farmers with government and was always ready to solve the problem. |
