Bahu Plaza dying slow death
12/13/2013 10:11:37 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 13: The frontline of the Bahu plaza has been well maintained by Jammu Development Authority (JDA) but the outer surroundings narrate a woeful tale.
Bahu Plaza is facing apathy of officials as lanes and bi-lanes in and around the complex are in dilapidated condition. No one is taking care of the sanitation of the complex. In addition to that there is insufficient parking space within the complex which creates problems for the daily commuters.
Heaps of garbage and open sewage holes around the complex mock and the authorities and cause inconvenience to the people, but who cares .
Abhishek Mahajan, a shopkeeper said, "First of all the shopkeepers are the main reason behind the garbage around the complex as they only throw it there. Secondly, the authorities don't show any interest in cleaning it. Only on Sunday, sweepers do the cleaning but on the other days nothing is done for the cleaning of the complex."
It is pertinent to mention here, in the month of May this year the vice chairman, JDA along with a team of senior officers of JDA visited Bahu Plaza and enquired about the problems being faced by the shopkeepers and had assured them full cooperation towards meeting their genuine demands well in time. But nothing has been done towards the poor sanitation and the insufficient parking space.
A senior official of JDA said, "Earlier we were looking after the sanitation condition of Bahu Plaza but then we had appointed a maintenance team among the shopkeepers association of the plaza who now look after the sanitary condition of the plaza. We cannot be blamed for its present sanitary condition."
"For parking I can say that we have created ample parking space for the people near Vishal mega mart but it remains empty as the people are not using it.
They park their vehicles near the place where they have to go. So, it is not our fault but the people who want to park their respective vehicles should understand to use the parking space properly."
