R&B officials, blue eyed contractors making hay in Taj's constituency

Srinagar, Dec 13: After destructing the habitat of rare wild animals by constructing roads within the wildlife sanctuary, contratctors close to
Taj Mohi-ud-din in nexus with Roads and Buildings (R&B) officials are violating the norms prescribed on allotment orders for upgrdation and widening of roads and are using the substandard material despite complaints of the locals.
According to reports the up gradation and widening of 7 kiolmetre Kamalkot to Madia road, rupees three crore 17 lakhs were sanctioned under NABARD development planning. The road was scheduled to be completed within a period of three years. However according to locals Muhammad Yousuf Khan and village head syed Inanyat Hussainsome blue eyed contractors in nexus with R&B officials who are close to Minister for Health Education Taj Mohi-ud -din are making hay by misappropriating the amount sanctioned for the said road without even spending 50% of the sanctioned money in real sense on the up gradation of the said road.
The details reveal that likewise for the Shadra to Jabda road rupees 37 lakhs were sanctioned under Border Area Development Programme (BADP) and as per BADP guidelines, the said project was supposed to be complete within a period of 12 months from March to March.
But according to sources one local contractor namely Faooq Ahmad who is considered a close associate of Taj Mohi-ud-din in nexus with some R&B officials are up grading and widening the said road for the sake of just upgrading and widening with an intention to complete the process before snowfall in a hurry without following the guidelines mentioned in the allotment orders and the grab the sanctioned money amongst them on share bases.
Despite repeated formal complaints to the concerned Executive Engineer of Uri division no action was taken.
It is noteworthy that when early times contacted the concerned superintending engineer, Riyaz Ahmad agreed that his department had already received complaints about the fraudulent measures used in the construction work going on Kamal-kot to Madia road and after they send one official of the department in that area
three spots were identified where Boulders instead of BAJRI was used and though contractor was warned also, however no action was taken against anybody at that time.
"Work on the said road is supposed to be done in three phases with no use boulders in any phase, however work done so far will be scrutinized" said he.
The official while denying any kind of political pressure said that his department will tomorrow send another official on the spot who will investigate the matter. Besides all the concerned which include contractors and concerned R&B officials will be called in the office and everything will be sort out as per the prescribed guidelines, he said.
