| Politics of competitive secessionism | | NC targets PDP for no reason | | Neha JAMMU, Dec 13: The fundamental duties of an elected Government are to hand down a friendly and corruption free administration to the citizens and evolve socio-economic and administrative policies that help people regenerate their life. It is also the primary duty of any Government to defend the constitutional arrangement in right spirit and take stringent actions against those who violate it and try to tinker with the cardinal principles of sovereignty. In short, the Government is duty bound to look after and cater to the basic needs of the people and protect and promote the country's sovereign interests. But the people of Jammu and Kashmir have a Government that, instead of discharging its obligations towards the people and the state, is indulging in dangerous politics of soft secessionism and communalism and going beyond the constitutional confines with the constitutional head in the state watching the dirty games as a mute spectator forgetting his constitutional duties. It has nothing at its disposal to sell in the political market to win over the people. So unpopular it has become due to its acts of omission and commission and its utter failure to deliver on any front and so desperate it has turned that one day it makes a fool of itself by attacking BJP Prime Ministerial nominee Narendra Modi and on other day attacks the PDP. The case in point is the dirty and divisive politics that the National Conference is playing under the misguided notion that its politics of soft secessionism and communalism would help it retrieve the political space it has over the period lost to the PDP and the BJP. On Wednesday, the Jammu-based NC leaders criticized BJP and Narendra Modi and accused them of playing a divisive politics completely overlooking its highly dangerous, communal, anti-people and anti-state credentials and the argument they advanced was that the BJP had demanded a holistic discussion on the pernicious Article 370. And on Thursday, they trained their separatist guns at the pro-self-rule PDP, a party based in Kashmir that has become a potential threat to the very existence of the Valley-based and sectarian NC. And what did they say about the PDP? "The PDP is a spent force. In a fit of desperation and lust for power, it has volunteered to be a partner in implementing Modi's doctrine of trampling the special identity of Jammu and Kashmir (read Kashmir, as the identity of Jammu and Ladakh is Indian). A party that has been shedding crocodile tears in Kashmir and pretending more loyal than the king in Jammu needs to answer its clandestine tie-up with BJP, the role of which in persecuting minorities has been notorious," they said while addressing workers' meetings at Kotranka and Palma in Darhal Assembly Constituency. They did not tell the people that the PDP stands for self-rule, demilitarization, India-Pakistan joint control over Jammu and Kashmir, economic freedom, withdrawal of all the Central laws from the State and retention of Article 370. The so-called NC leaders also did not tell the people that it was the Dogra Maharaja Gulab Singh who stopped the process of migration of the minorities from Kashmir to Jammu and elsewhere in 1846 and that it was the communal approach of the NC towards all the issues that restarted the process of migration in 1947. Thousands of Kashmiri Hindu and Sikh families, besides Dogras in their hundreds, migrated to Jammu immediately after Jawaharlal Nehru conspired against Maharaja Hari Singh and manipulated transfer of state power from Jammu to the Srinagar-based NC leader Sheikh Abdullah. They further made fool of themselves when they spoke or the entire population of Jammu province and asserted that the "people of Jammu and Kashmir are well poised to counter elements like Modi but it is very difficult to identify the enemies from within". They also availed the opportunity to reassure their master Omar Abdullah that they would not mind crossing any line to please their Kashmiri masters, who have destroyed Jammu politically, socially, economically and culturally. The people of Jammu province are not that naive that they do not understand what these NC leaders have been saying. They understand everything and that's the reason the support-base of this so-called mainstream party has been fast-shrinking. |
