Vijaypur, Dec 13: Former Minister and Senior Congress leader Manjit Singh has sought an impartial enquiry into the misappropriation of funds and misuse of most of the centrally sponsored schemes in Vijaypur constituency under political pressure.
"I appeal to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Chief Secretary Iqbal Khandey to hold a transparent probe into the misuse of centrally sponsored schemes in Vijaypur," Manjit Singh demanded, while speaking at a public meeting in village Bandral on Friday.
Singh said that the schemes like BADP, Cattle Shed Schemes under NREGA, Indra Awas Yojana, MGNREGA and total sanitation etc are being misused for the personal benefits by the corrupt officers in the constituency under a political support.
"There is a need for a probe and it should be ordered by the Government unfold the facts where the money has gone and who have taken benefits of these schemes meant for the poor and downtrodden section of the society," Singh said.
He said that the funds of these schemes have also been misappropriated allegedly by the corrupt officers. "The benefits of NREGA, Indra Awas Yojna, MGNREGA and other works being given to a selected section of people but the people living below poverty line have been left to the mercy of God," he alleged.
He further said that the under Indra Awas Yojna many cases have come to fore where non BPL people have been taking up benefits of the schemes while the actual suffers remain without taking any benefit.
"In many cases, the rules were thrown to winds under MGNREGA Scheme and works were done using machines instead of human resources. People were not provided jobs," he further alleged.
The former Minister said that similar treatment was given to the Total Sanitation Scheme where poor people who do not have talents are given money for its construction but here too, the beneficiaries were those who already have their own toilets.
In Social Welfare Works too, he alleged that already well settled families are given benefits while the needy families are ignored and it should be investigated as to why the centrally sponsored schemes were not being properly implemented for the development of the society as a whole.
With regard to feed, he said that the concerned department allegedly released feed for those who even don't have cattle.
"They get the feed with hands in glove with the officials in the concerned department and then sell it in the open market for profit," he alleged, while saying that the families who have cattle are again ignored.
Meanwhile, at least 12 people joined Congress party in Vijaypur. Prominent among those were Ex Caption Karnail Singh, Lakhvinder Singh, Surjeet Singh, Sham Lal, Daleep, Dimpal, and others.
Prominent among those who attended the public meeting includes Janak Singh, Panch Khajur Singh, Ex-Chairman Muncipal Committee Ramgarh Romesh Bhagat, Ex Corporator and Ex Caption Darshan Singh, Avtar Singh, Jaswant Singh, Amar Singh, Nanak Chand, and Bakshi Singh.
