| MIER organises inter-college symposium on Aids awareness | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 13: To mark World AIDS Day, an Iinter-College symposium on the theme "Role of Higher Education in creating AIDS free society" was organised by NSS unit of MIER College of Education. Dr. Vishav Raksha, NSS Programme Coordinator, University of Jammu was the Chief Guest on the occasion Whereas, Dr Renu Gupta, Director MIER Group of Institutions, was the Guest of honour. Dr. Rajiv Gupta, Associate Professor P.G. Dept. of Community, medicine and blood transfusion G.M.C.Jammu, Dr. H.R. Shan, Head Centre for Educational Research, MIER and Dr. Annie Koul, HOD B.Ed wing MIER were the honourable Jury members. Twelve students from various Colleges across Jammu city participated in this symposium. All the participants expressed their views on the theme in a very succinct and impressive manner. Dr. Renu threw light on the theme of the symposium 'Aids' which has virtually invaded the entire humanity and has become a serious disaster of modern times. According to her, higher education can act as a social vaccine by spreading knowledge and awareness among the youth which is the most vulnerable class. Including AIDS Education in the academic and non academic curriculum at college level, developing healthy institutional policy and training the staff and students to act as educators and counselors can help contain the epidemic to a great extent, Dr. Gupta suggested. On the basis of the results given by Jury members, Kusum Rajput representing J.K. College of Education was awarded first prize, Neelakshi from MIER College of Education won the second prize and Prabhjot Kour of GCW Gandhi Nagar secured third position. |
