| Vijaypur farmers demand release of flood relief | | | Early Times Report
SAMBA, Dec 20 : Alleging non-disbursement of compensation to flood affected families, the farmers of Vijaypurand its vicinity have demanded that government should initiate immediate steps to mitigate the problems of the farming community who is facing hardships ever since the floods played havoc five months back. A large number of farmers while talking to Early Times said that they are suffering from a number of problems as the flood water of river Basanter and Devak badly destroyed their paddy as well as vegetables fields. Their cultivated fields changed into pits and nallahs, they added. The floods affected more than ten villages, 2700 farmers as seven thousand acres of paddy fields were destroyed but relief is yet to be received by them. The farmers Prem Lal, Such Dev, Raj Kumar, Krishan Lal and Mohan Lal said that they are forced to live a miserable life as their only source of income is farming which can't be taken up due to the worse condition of the fields. The farmers lamented that despite Chief Minister's assurance of providing relief, the district administration did nothing except conducting surveys. "We are still waiting for the compensation. The Samba district administration has failed to discharge its duty of disbursing compensation to the affected farmers," Prem Lal said. |
