| BOPEE scam: Court extends judicial remand of accused | | | S Sabaqat Srinagar, Dec 20: A local court here today extended by 11 days the judicial remand of one of the accused in paper selling scam of Common Entrance Test conducted by Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE) last year. The accused, Sajjad Ahmad Bhat was produced by Crime Branch before Special Judge Anti-Corruption Kashmir, Mohan Lal Manhas. The Crime Branch has sought extension in judicial remand of Bhat, saying that investigation was still in progress and "lot of incriminating evidence yet to be collected". "Keeping in view the facts and circumstance of the case, application for grant of judicial remand is allowed and 11 days remanded is granted," the court said. Sajad was arrested on November 15 for alleged selling CET papers in 2012 to candidates through another broker. After expiry of the time, the Judge said Peer shall be produced before a competent court for further orders. "Superintendent of central jail Srinagar is directed to get the accused medically examined under jail manuals," the court said. According to Crime Branch, Sajjad, a resident of Kulgam, had received question papers of Physics, Chemistry and Biology from Farooq Ahmad Itoo, the kingpin in the scam, at Nishat in outskirts of Srinagar and distributed it among various candidates through one Haroon Rashid of Dyalgam Anantnag in lieu of huge amount from paper buyers. "Out of this amount, a portion was paid to Farooq Ahmad Itoo," the Crime Branch said while seeking dismissal of the bail application by Sajjad. The court on December 10 has already rejected bail plea of Sajjad. |
