| 636 villages in JK without mobile coverage | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 20: Exploding the myth of having the best improved infrastructure (by a private media group), 636 villages in Jammu Kashmir are without any mobile coverage. Thirty-three villagers have yet to get a public telephone. The Chief Minister while welcoming the award had said that J&K wins an award for the most improved infrastructure. Those who like to believe I spend all my time tweeting will probably say I bought it." The Chief Minister had till now not spoken about the need for improved tele-connectivity in the State where many areas remain out of bounds for most part of the year. There is poor telephone connectivity in Leh and Kargil districts and also in Rajouri and Poonch districts of the state. In many parts of Ladakh, where many parts remain snow bound, the connectivity is very poor and most of the villages without any connectivity are in this region. "The roads are blocked, there is no air service and telephones don't work. We still feel living in dark ages and the State Government doesn't care about us. I haven't heard about any statement from the CM in this regard about our area," said Tashi Namgayal, resident of Zanskar, in Kargil district. The CM had been talking about road connecting and hydo electric production but not on this important issue especially when tele-density in other parts of the country is increasing and there is huge improvement in mobile connectivity. Even MP Madan Lal Sharma had asked the BSNL authorities to improve tele-connectivity in Rajouri and Poonch districts. The problem is so acute that the matter was raised even in the Assembly in Srinagar but still no headway was made. People say that Omar has never even cared to give consideration to this important aspect and has ignored the basic amenity of the people. "He himself is tweeting on everything on the earth and posting pictures, even when his telephone is stolen. But could he have done it had his residence or office been in the area without tele-connectivity. Then could he have got four lakh followers of his tweeter account," said a resident of Poonch. |
