| Effort to counter Modi wave: A faction in Cong moots idea to depute Ministers for organisation work | | Idea creates ripples among party Ministers | | ET Report JAMMU, Dec 20: Amid reports that Congress is going to revamp party organisation in Jammu and Kashmir to counter Modi wave in the state in general and Jammu province in particular, a group within the party has raised the demand of deputing some effective Ministers in the organisation work. This demand has been raised from a group within party which takes a cue from the on-going development at national level. Authoritative sources in the Congress said that 2014 Lok Sabha elections are "do or die" battle for the party so Congress leadership has decided to concentrate on each and every Parliamentary segment. "The idea to depute some Ministers in the organisation work was mooted to strengthen party in the state", sources said and added that Congress high command has asked state leadership to identify those efficient Ministers who would be given important assignments in the organisations. Sources said that Congress leadership was very particular about strengthening party in Kashmir valley. Although coalition partner National Conference has already announced candidates for all the three Lok Sabha seats of Kashmir valley, Congress leadership wants to contest atleast one Parliamentary seat of Valley seriously to mark presence of party in the Kashmir valley. Sources said that a faction in the party has mooted the idea of first relieving at-least a Minister from Kashmir valley from Ministerial berth and engage him in the organisation matter to strengthen the party in Valley. The faction that has mooted the idea of deputing some Ministers in the organisation has asked party leadership to take lesson from coalition partner which has deputed some important Ministers on organisation matter. Sources said that final decision of this idea was yet to be taken but it has created ripples within the party especially among Ministers because none of the Minister is interested to leave Ministerial berth at this juncture when preparation for Assembly elections has also started. Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Saif-ud-Din Soz are arriving Jammu tomorrow . Azad is coming Jammu to inaugurate Health Mela while as Soz arriving to discuss organisation matter with the party leaders here. During their stay at Jammu, both the leaders would hold discussions with their loyalists. |
