Jammu, Dec 20 : Air, rail services remained affected for the third consecutive day on Friday due to dense fog that has enveloped the region. Jammu Airport SP Ashok Sharma said, "Three flights were cancelled today due to foggy conditions." "In the morning, there was absolutely no visibility. The first flight, scheduled at 8.40 am, could only land at 11.30 am. All the other flights were delayed by two to three hours. The departure timings of almost all the flights were also re-scheduled," he added.A spokesperson from the meteorological department said that Jammu's maximum temperature was 16.6° Celsius, almost 4 degrees below normal. He said the minimum temperature in Jammu was 4.3° Celsius, almost 5 degrees below normal, while in Srinagar, minimum temperature was -3° Celsius. The spokesperson has said that there would be no respite from the foggy conditions in next 24 hours. For the entire state, there is a forecast of light rain, with chances of snow on the higher reaches", he added.
"Today, the situation was a bit better then yesterday. Barring four-odd trains, all other trains arrived on time at the Jammu railway station. Trains operating from various parts of the country arrived two to four hours late, while some trains were also rescheduled from here due to poor visibility and dense fog in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi," said a spokesperson of the Northern Railway. |
