| Brown-Sugar smugglers acquitted as prosecution fails | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Dec 20 : Principal Sessions Judge Jammu Kartar Singh acquitted two accused namely Javed Iqbal S/O Mohd Maqbool Wani R/O Lal Chowk Srinagar and Asmat Ullah Bhat S/O Hafiz Ullah Bhat, R/o Lal Chowk Srinagar who were facing trial in alleged smuggling of Brown Sugar as prosecution miserably failed to prove its case. According to the police case, on 10.9.2006, a police party from Police Station Gandhi Nagar, Jammu headed by Rakesh Kumar, Sub Inspector was on patrol duty. when they reached Last Morh Gandhi at about 1.30 PM, a Maruti Car bearing registration No. 3670/JK02L appeared which was going towards Shastri Nagar. Four persons were traveling in the said vehicle and they sped away from the spot. The vehicle was followed and it was stopped and searched. During search a leather purse was recovered from the Bashir Ahmed in which one sealed packed was foundcarrying Brown Sugar and after completion of investigation challan was presented. Principal Sessions Judge Jammu Kartar Singh after hearing both the sides observed that The evidence produced by the prosecution clearly establishes that mandatory provisions of law have not been complied with and it has rendered the prosecution story doubtful and held that prosecution has miserably failed to prove the case beyond reasonable shadow of doubt. They are, therefore, acquitted of the charges framed against them. (JNF) |
