| Modi wave gets NC-Cong on table | | Pre-poll alliance in final stage | | Javaid Naikoo
Srinagar, Dec 20 : The much talked pre poll alliance between National conference (NC) and state Congress for the forthcoming Assembly elections is in final stage with both the partners putting forth their respective conditions for all the divisions of the state. According to the sources within NC and Congress, core members of NC which include Ali Muhammad Sagar, Raheem Rather, Ajay Sadotra, Chowdry Muhammad Ramzan, Sharif -ud -din Sharik and Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Saif -ud-din Soz from state Congress wing have though finalized the seat sharing for parliamentary elections for all the three ivision of the state after through consultation on the issue with Congress core group in New Delhi headed by united progressive alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi. However certain conditions from NC and state Congress about the assembly elections and parliamentary elections are on table and opinions from both the sides are sought on the issues related with pre- poll alliance. One senior candidate of state Congress from Kashmir said that state Congress was on a slippery wicket in Jammu division after Narendra Modi's recent Lalkar rally. According to him, the situation seems to be favouring Bhartiya Janata Party more than any other political party. He has put forward a demand before the NC core group to support state Congress in Jammu to fetch both the parliamentary seats from the area so that a healthy environment could be created for state Congress candidates likely to contest assembly elections in Jammu. He said that NC core group is firm to support state Congress for Ladakh seat of parliamentary elections as well, however NC which in turn is facing hot wave of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) across the Kashmir division and in parts of Jammu as well have their own conditions for the alliance. The NC camp fears stiff competition from the BJP in Ladakh. Sources within NC said that NC has decided to drop some of its candidates from North Kashmir and support state Congress in the area. It is believed that for Sangrama constituency Congress candidate Shoeb Nabi Lone will contest while as NC candidate Dr Ghualam Qadir Bhat will be given rest. In Pattan constituency Abdul Rashhed Shaheeen of NC will contest and Congress candidate Dr Abdul Ahad Yatoo will not be in the fray. Similarly in Bandipora constituency Usman Majeed will contest and NC candidate Ghulam Rasoool Naz will stay away. And in Uri constituency Congress candidate Taj Mohi-ud-din will contest while as Shafi Uri will be given rest. In Sopore and Rafiabad NC candidate Javadi Dar will contest while as Haji Muhammad Ashraf will be given rest, while as for both parliamentary cum assembly elections NC will support state congress in whole of Ladakh. Sources said as that as NC core group is all set to sign agreements with Congress high command for both the forthcoming elections, however few senior Congress members from Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of the country considered very close to PDP patron Mufti Muhammad Syed, Muzaffar Beigh, Nizam ud din Bhat are in continuous touch with Sonia Gandhi and do not approve the terms and conditions put forth by NC. According to them, the former Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad who heads a faction of the Congress is yet to give his opinion about the seat sharing arrangement. Sources close to Azad said Azad has expressed willingness to become the Chief Minister of the state yet again. |
