| Earthquake jolts District Doda, people panic | | | Early Times Report KISHTWAR, Jan 5: After a brief lull of nearly two months, another earthquake measuring 3.6 on Richter scale jolted many parts in Doda and Kishtwar District. As per details, earthquake took place at 7.01 PM today at a depth of 10 KM beneath the earth and its epicentre was found to be at 33.3° North and longitude 75.9°East of Kishtwar. After feeling the tremor, large number of people came out of homes despite a chilly weather and continuous rains and snowfall going on in the area. People allege that despite making huge promises by the government with regard to payments of compensation to the earthquake victims of May 1st and 14th last year, government did not pay a single penny to the victims or in case they paid the compensation; it is a meagre amount as compared to losses suffered by the people. They said that despite 50 earthquakes in last 3-4 months, the government fails to draw a comprehensive plan to tackle with the problems faced by the people due to continuous earthquakes. Many people are living in unsafe houses as they have no money to repair their houses suffered damages due to continuous spat of earthquakes. It is pertinent to mention that many parts of Doda and Kishtwar District; particularly the hilly areas are presently under 3-4 feet snow cover and without any electricity. The fresh spat of earthquake has added to the over burden problems faced by the people of Doda and Kishtwar Districts having the population of nearly 6 lacs.
