JAMMU, Jan 5: Notwithstanding tall claims of the Defence Ministry, the retired army personnel, who served the nation selflessly, are being given a raw deal at 166 Military Hospital (MH), Satwari by the authorities concerned. Sources told Early Times that the superannuated officers and jawans, who are entitled to have medicare facilities under Ex-servicemen Contributory Health Service (ECHS) scheme of the army, are facing lot of problems at MH, Satwari since the hospital lacks medical amenities including medicines and other allied facilities. "The ECHS scheme was started with an aim to provide medicines and other health care facilities to ex-servicemen who contribute a meager amount to avail benefits of the scheme but at MH, Hospital they (retired army officials) are hardly getting satisfactory service," sources said. "The retired officers and jawans feel betrayed after giving their life for their country as they are being treated shabbily at MH, Satwari." Sources further reveal that all is not well in MH, Satwari since a majority of the officers and jawans complaint about non-availability of medicines and other basic medicare to the inmates as well as outdoor patients of the hospital. According to insiders, the newly appointed Commandant of 166 MH and his subordinates have created a mess in the hospital since the patients always get a negative response as far as medicines are concerned. "Whenever the patients demand the medicines, they get a reply that it is not available. Jab Aayegi Tab Davai Mil Jayegi (You will get the medicine as soon as the fresh stock arrives)". A wife of retired army personnel wishing anonymity told this scribe that the administration at MH, Satwari needs complete overhaul as there is complete anarchy and nobody is accountable. Narrating her tale of woes, the lady said that she lives in a remote village and has come to collect the medicines for her ailing husband but the persons at the helm of affairs denied her the drugs citing unavailability adding the person and misbehaved with her. Ruing the poor facilities, a retired army personnel said that every where we see separate queue for senior citizens but that is also missing in this hospital. Despite repeated attempts by the ET reporter the higher authorities of the hospital could not be contacted. |
