State Govt disregards PM's assurances
1/5/2014 11:38:53 PM
Bivek Mathur
Jammu, Jan 5: The words of Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh, it seems hardly make any sense for the Jammu and Kashmir government especially Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Minister for Culture Raman Bhalla as the state is yet to decide on his suggestion to establish a cultural centre in Jammu and Kashmir.
One could easily gauge the respect for the words of Prime Minister of India by the state Minister and Chief Minister also by the fact that in the year 2010 in between June 7 to 8, Manmohan Singh made an announcement to establish cultural centres in Jammu and Kashmir for the safeguard of distinct tribal culture and tribal communities including Gujjars, Bakerwals and Pahari speaking communities with main centre at Jammu and three sub-centres at Rajouri, Kupwara and Kulgam but due to casual approach of the State government, the state government is yet to implement the proposals to establish the cultural centres.
Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture, Raman Bhalla however claimed to implement the proposal shortly by the Ministry of Culture but with few months left for this coalition government in state, his assurance seems to be a challenge for the minister himself.
As per sources, besides cultural centre the Prime Minister of India also announced during his visit to establish Autonomous institutions at Srinagar, Jammu and Leh to safeguard, preserve and promote regional cultures of the three geographically, and linguistically distinct regions of the State including Jammu, Leh and Kashmir. Besides the head quarters at Srinagar, there will be two sub-Centres, one each at Bhadarwah and Leh.
Early Times also learnt from sources that both of the proposals are to be implemented by Government of Jammu and Kashmir with financial assistance from Government of India but Jammu and Kashmir government has so far failed to fulfill its promise despite a lapse of three years of the announcement made by the Prime Minister.
