| Death of young girl in DH Bhaderwah | | Family alleges negligence, demands probe | | Bijay Charak Jammu, Jan 15: Family of the young college girl who died in District hospital Bhaderwah today has alleged gross negligence on part of the doctors and have demanded probe in the circumstances that led to the death of their daughter. Sangeeta Kotwal, 23 old daughter of Pritam Kotwal a resident of village Laroth was admitted in the hospital after she vomited at her house. But due to non-availability of doctors in the emergency block of the hospital, she soon breathed her last. "She (Sangeeta) was studying in her room and after vomiting, she fell unconscious and we immediately took her to the hospital", said family members, alleging that there was no doctor in the hospital. "Only a Medical Assistant, Sanjay Kumar was there to attend to patients. He provided first aid and informed the doctor about the condition of patient, after 30 minutes a doctor came only to declare our daughter dead", narrated wailing father of deceased. "At about 4 pm, on Tuesday we reached at Hospital after travelling over 15 kilometers, but there was no doctor to attend to our ailing daughter", he said. Recollecting his last conversation with her daughter, wailing Pritam said that at the time when they arrived in hospital, Sangeeta was talking to them and a timely medical assistance could have saved her. Shunkatala Devi, mother of deceased said that her daughter died only due to negligence on the part of hospital administration. Terming Bhaderwah hospital a butcher house, she demanded strong action against erring Doctors. Hospital authorities, despite repeated attempts, were not available for comment while doctors remained tight-lipped over the incident. The family of the deceased girl also demanded an inquiry into the incident. When contacted, BMO, Dr Khulbhushan, disconnected the call without responding to the allegation leveled against the hospital management by the family of deceased. |
