| Army counters, corrects Omar twice | | | early times report Jammu, Jan 15: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has been cornered and corrected by the Army for the second time in two days. The correction from the Army on factual accounts is likely to take sheen out of the political rhetoric of the Chief Minister. GoC-in-C northern command today said 2014 would be an important year for the developments in the State as this year US led troops start pulling out of the Afghanistan. This statement was in sharp contrast to the assessment of the Chief Minister who had maintained that there would be no effect of troops pull out. Omar had repeated this in number of interviews . Omar was trying to make a perception that the assessment of Army is wrong with the objective of pushing his agenda of revocation of AFSPA. Omar had been deliberately saying that there would be no effect of pull out so that a debate is generated if pull out doesn't have any effect then the number of foot prints need to reduced and also the safe guards provided to army in carrying out counter insurgency operations be taken out as terrorists number would also not increase rather decrease. Army which has more credible assessment and knowledge of the situation had by his assessment said there is every possibility of terrorists coming into the State. The army has a case in point as after the Russian pull out the terrorism started in the State. Omar was countered again by the Army yesterday also. Army chief had categorically said that AFSPA can't be revoked as of now as the Army is keeping close watch on the situation in the Afghanistan. The pullout from the Afghanistan could have huge security concerns for the Army. The terrorists fighting in Afghanistan are not only from different countries but also include many who have carried out terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir. The chief minister was trying to put down the assessment of Army just for his political consideration to remain seated in the power and in company of large number of security personnel. But now the Army has made its concern and intentions clear.
