4th Police Martyrs Memorial NZ T20
Haryana Police, Vicky XI Pathankot in semis

KATHUA, Jan 15: Haryana Police and Vicky XI Pathankot won their respective matches to move into the semifinals of the ongoing 4th Police Martyrs’ Memorial North Zone Twenty20 Cricket Championship at Sports Stadium, here today.
In the first quarterfinal of the match, Haryana Police defeated Ludhiana District Cricket Association (LDCA) by 37 runs. Earlier, LDCA won the toss and opted to field.
Batting first, Haryana Police set a target of 151 runs in 20 overs for the loss of nine wickets. Mukesh Sharma made highest 33 runs. From LDCA, Amritpal, Vabav and Abhishek Talwar shared two wickets each.
In reply, LDCA bowled out for 113 runs. Abhishek Talwar remained top scorer with 29 runs. Amrinder Singh of Haryana Police took three wickets while Vicky bagged two. Vicky of Haryana Police declared man of the match and awarded with Rs 2100 as cash prize by Ashwani Gupta.
Meanwhile, in another quarterfinal of the day, Vicky XI Pathankote trounced VJCA Delhi by 17 runs. Batting first, after VJCA Delhi won the toss and decided to field, Vicky Club set a target of 178 runs for eight wickets.
Sarul Kanwar played fine innings of 81 runs off just 53 balls. Pulkit Narang of VJCA Delhi took three wickets. In reply, VJCA Delhi bundled out for 161 runs. Akshit of VJCA Delhi scored 38 runs off 26 balls. Gurvinder, Mongia and Sonu of Vicky XI Pathankot took two wickets each.
Sarul Kanwar of Vicky XI Pathankot was declared man of the match and presented with Rs 3100 cash prize by Dharampaul Sharma of DPS Private Limited Kathua.

Big 70-run win for Marh Club in BJYM T20


JAMMU, Jan 15: Marh Cricket Club today registered a big 70 runs win over Shiv Cricket Club to reach the next round of the ongoing Twenty20 Cricket Tournament organised by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) at Parade Ground, here under Khelega Yuva Jeetega Bharat.
Batting first, after winning the toss, Marh Club set a big total of 152 runs for the loss of four wickets. Amit remained top scorer with 45 runs while Tarun was most successful bowler from Shiv Club.
In reply, Shiv Club could not reach the required target and bundled out for 82 runs in 12 overs. Rohit made highest 26 runs. From Marh Club, Rambo emerged as most successful bowler with three wickets. Amit declared man of the match.
Chartered Accountant, Sat Sharma was special guest who presented the man of the match trophy.

Running trophy for Christmas Gold Cup introduced

Second consecutive title for J&K Bank


JAMMU, Jan 15: The formidable side of Jammu and Kashmir Bank today clinched the second consecutive title in less than one month beating the arch rivals and equally good J&K Forests by two goals to one in the final of the 8th Christmas Gold Cup Football Tournament, organised by All J&K Christian Welfare Association at GGM Science College ground, here.
Except for last 20 minutes play, unlike other matches, the J&K Bank dominated the game throughout. Entering into the second half of the play with two goals lead, Bank played exemplary game to prevent the opponent from leveling the score.
Again, guard at the net, Vikramjeet Singh made a crucial save in the second half when Forest had already reduced the margin. Vikram’s timely jump helped him divert an incoming ball past the goal bar amidst thunderous applause from the jam-packed crowd turned to watch the game between two top teams of the state.
Earlier, Prem Kumar struck twice in the 19th and 35th minute to help J&K Bank gain an invincible lead. However, Toufeeq, who played brilliantly in the last minutes of the play, netted the ball in the 55th minute giving a dodge to advancing Bank goal-keeper.
The title clash officiated by Rakesh Kumar, Moon Stephen, Vijay Kumar, Hilal and Rinku Gill while Nazir Ahmed was match commissioner.
In the final and valedictory function, Minister of State for Sports, Feroz Ahmed Khan was chief guest, while Member Legislative Assembly (MLA), Dr Mustafa Kamal was guest of honour. They presented the running trophy, introduced for the first time by the organizers.
Earlier, chairman of the organising committee, SM Gill welcomed the distinguished gathering. Among others the final was witnessed by Deputy Inspector General of Police, Johny William, Director Environment and office bearers of the J&K Football Association.

Lucky Jammu for Bank

Jammu has turned out to be lucky for the J&K Bank. After their dismal show in the last season at Srinagar, the Bank has won two back to back events. In Srinagar, the professional side lost both the finals of State League and State Championship, but in Jammu the side has already won Sher-e-Kashmir Football title and Christmas Gold Cup. The J&K Bank has also made it to the final of the Christmas Football Championship.

Christmas Soccer final tomorrow

The Christian Sports Organisation has decided to hold the final of 2nd Christmas Soccer Championship at GGM Science College, here on January 17 at 2 pm. In the final, J&K Bank shall take on their junior side of J&K Bank Academy.

Benia of J&K Police bags Panthal Kesari dangal


JAMMU, Jan 15: Wrestler Benia of J&K Police lifted the 114th Panthal Kesari dangal title beating Monu Pal of Haryana Police in the main bout that lasted for 12 minutes at Panthal in tehsil and district of Reasi.
Wrestler Benia was adjudged best wrestler of the dangal which was organised by Shri Swami Nitya Nand Dangal Committee under the aegis of J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association.
The title winner Benia got a cash prize of Rs 18,000 in additional to Silver Gurj and Patta by Superintendent of Police, Kulvir Singh and president of J&K Indian Style wrestling Association, Shiv Kumar Sharma. Runners-up, Monu Pal got Rs 13,000 prize money
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Katra, Ghulam Hassan Sheikh and Prithvi Raj Sharma were guests of honour. District Horticulture Officer, Verinder Sharma, Raj Hussain and Kuldeep Malik were among other prominent present.
In all, 70 bouts took played in this day-long dangal. The second main bout worth Rs 15,000 went to Mohan Lal of Sat Paul Akhara of Delhi beating Yodha of Attari Amritsar. Wrestler Yodha got Rs 10,000. In third main bout, Kaka of RS pura Jammu defeated Johny of Attari, Amritsar. While Kaka bagged Rs 7000 cash money, Rs 5,000 given away to Johny.
Other Results: Inderjeet of Amritsar beat Bobri of Sarore; Pritam Singh of Reasi beat Sajjad Ahmed of Udhampur; Liaqat Ali of Panthal beat Nishat of Jammu; Shindha of Amritsar beat Gopal Sharma of Jindrah; Amir Khan of Bajarangi Akhara Jammu beat Vinay of Haryana; Charrat of Attari beat Murad Ali of Domana Akhara; Arjun of Amritsar beat Billa of Jammu; Balli of Domana Akhara beat Sonu of Attari; Asif of Jammu beat Arjun of Amritsar. Bouts between Kalu of Bishnah ands Roshan Lal of J&K Police, Sadiq of Domana Akhara and Nissar Mohd. of Doda, Daler Khan of J&K Police and Farooq of Sarore and Lallu of Bajarangi Akhara Jammu V/s Ballu of Dera Baba Nanak ended in draw.
Members and technical officials who helped in the smooth conduct of this dangal included Pritam Magotra, Parshotam Mengi, Prem Padha, Mukesh Khajuria, Birjesh Khajuria, Om Parkash, Parsotam, Mohd. Fareed, Om Parkash Sharma, retired Captain Lehar Singh,Vijay Singh (Viju), Abdul Pahelwan, Ramnik Nowada, Murli Dhar (Munna), Virender Sharma and Raj Hussain.
